Bard College: Games

College of Games

Bards of the College of Games are masters of chance and fortune, wielding luck like a weapon. With cards, dice, and their keen insight into games of chance, these bards can manipulate outcomes, bringing fortune to allies and misfortune to their enemies.

Bonus Proficiencies

At 3rd level, your affinity for games of skill and chance grants you proficiency in either Sleight of Hand, Insight, or Deception. You also gain proficiency in your choice of either a gaming set, playing cards, or gaming dice.

Lucky Streak

Starting at 3rd level, as a bonus action, you can use one of your Bardic Inspiration dice to grant yourself or an ally within 60 feet a Lucky Streak. The target rolls the Bardic Inspiration die and consults the Lucky Streak Table below to determine the effect. The result changes depending on whether the target is an ally or an enemy. The effect lasts until the start of your next turn unless otherwise specified.

Result Effect for Allies Effect for Enemies
1 Nothing Happens Nothing Happens
2-3 Gain temporary hit points equal to the Bardic Inspiration die + the bard’s Charisma modifier + proficiency bonus. The enemy’s movement speed is reduced to half until the end of their next turn.
4-5 Until the end of your next turn, you can add a Bardic Inspiration die to all attack rolls and damage rolls. Reduce all damage the enemy deals by the Bardic Inspiration die until the end of their next turn.
6-7 Bard: regain one spent Bardic Inspiration die. Everyone else: Gain one Bardic Inspiration die they can use within the next hour. The enemy is stunned until the end of your next turn.
8-9 For the next minute, you can take the Dodge action as a bonus action and do not provoke opportunity attacks. The enemy has disadvantage on all attack rolls until the end of their next turn.
10-11 For one minute, you can use a reaction to roll a Bardic Inspiration die and add it to your AC against one attack. Roll a Bardic Inspiration die to subtract from the enemy’s AC until the end of your next turn.
12 Gain one free natural 20 that can be used for any roll within the next minute. The bard can choose to make one attack roll, saving throw, or ability check the enemy makes within the next minute automatically a natural 1.

Card of Fates

At 6th level, you gain a mystical deck of cards that allows you to manipulate fate.

  • Drawing Cards: After a short or long rest, you draw a number of cards equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1). Roll a d8 for each card to determine its suit and effect from the Card Table below.

  • Playing Cards: As a reaction, when you or an ally within 60 feet is affected by an attack, saving throw, or ability check, you can play one of the cards from your hand, activating its effect. Once a card is played, it is spent.

  • Reshuffling: You can reshuffle your hand as a bonus action, discarding all remaining cards and drawing a new hand. After reshuffling, you draw one fewer card than your previous hand, down to a minimum of 1 card. You regain your full hand size after a short or long rest.

d8 Roll Card Drawn Effect
1-2 Spade As a reaction, the target gains +2 to AC against one attack.
3-4 Heart As a reaction, the target gains hit points equal to your Bardic Inspiration die + Charisma modifier.
5-6 Club As a reaction, the target’s next attack deals additional damage equal to your Bardic Inspiration die.
7-8 Diamond As a reaction, the target can reroll one attack roll, saving throw, or ability check, but must use the new result.

Fortune's Favor

At 14th level, your mastery of luck and fate allows you to manipulate the effects of Lucky Streak more flexibly. When you use Lucky Streak, you can choose to split the result between up to two targets. You can apply the same buff to yourself and an ally, give both allies the buff, give yourself a buff and an enemy a debuff, or give two enemies the same debuff.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of 1), regaining all uses after a long rest.
