Skill Training
If a character wishes to gain proficiency in a skill, tool, language, or weapon they can train during their downtime to learn it. To do so, they must find a teacher or some other means of learning that proficiency. Then, the character can spend time and gold to learn that skill, tool, language, or weapon.
Training takes 8 weeks at most, at a cost of 50gp per week. For each point of Intelligence modifier that character has, training a proficiency takes one less week of training. For each of these weeks, you spend 1 actual day of downtime per week for Downtime Activity purposes. The gold cost must be paid to complete the training.
Training Time (Weeks): 8 - Intelligence Modifier (8 Weeks Minimum);
50gp is expended per week spent training
1 day of Downtime is expended per week spent training
For example, Timmy the Wizard with an 18 Intelligence score (+4 modifier) wants to learn to use Smith’s Tools. Training in this way would take a normal character a total of 10 weeks at a cost of 500gp. Timmy would reduce this time by 4 weeks and 300gp due to his intelligence score, for a total time of 6 weeks of downtime and 200gp.
Training Assistance
When training, a creature can seek out the assistance of one other player who has the desired proficiency or spell. Both players then spend the appropriate amount of time training. When they do so, the training player can choose to either:
-
A: Half the gp required (does not affect the total time)
-
B: Half the time required (does not affect the total gold)
