Level 0 Characters D&D5e
This Rule is for campaign that start with commoners, apprentices or rookies, gaining only the most basic aspects of a Class.
Once the Level 0 Characters complete their first adventure, or gain 150 XP, they reach their 1st Class Level.
Class Level 0
Choose a Class as normal. You gain the following Features:
Hit Die and Hit Points. You gain 1 Hit Die and the Hit Points at Higher Levels of your Class (such as 6+CON Modifier for Fighter).
Proficiencies. You gain all the Proficiencies of your Class.
Features. You only gain the Unarmored Defense, Spellcasting or Pact Caster Features (if any with Class). You can only Cast Cantrips.
Equipment
You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:
- (a) two Simple Weapons, (b) one Melee Martial Weapon, (c) one Simple Weapon with a Component Pouch or (d) 10gp
- (a) one Padded Light Armor, (b) one Hide Medium Armor, (c) one Ring Mail Heavy Armor, (d) one Shield, or (e) 10gp
- (a) 5 torches, 50ft of hempen rope and a bed roll, (b) one set of Artisan's Tools or (c) 10gp
1st Class Level
At 1st-Level, you replace all Features gained at Level 0 with your 1st Class Level Features (such as your Hit Points), except the starting equipment of your Class which is at the GMs choice if you receive it; such as by being given an inheritance or reward from an NPC.
