Warlock: The Spider Queen

The Spider Queen

You have woven a pact with an otherworldly weaver, a crafty spider-like entity that exerts its influence not with teeth, claw or fist, but with thread. Such entities may focus on spreading their dominion over the world until all is blanketed in silvery silk. Others may simply wish to protect their precious, delicate homelands with cunning traps and fortified structures.

Beings of this type include Lolth the Spider Queen, Arachne the Weaver, Anansi the Trickster, Uttu the Goddess of Weaving, the Jorōgumo, and Peter Parker the Spiderman.

Expanded Spell List

1st-level Spider Queen feature The Spider Queen lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Spider Queen Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st entangle, snare
2nd rope trick, web
3rd glyph of warding, slow
4th giant insect,
grasping vine
(appears as a silk thread)
5th contagion, insect plague

Eldritch Weaver

1st-level Spider Queen feature You can magically conjure incredibly sturdy spider silk. You have a capacity of silk equal to 20 feet, plus an additional 10 feet of silk capacity for every Warlock level. Each use of your silk is always rounded up to the nearest 10 feet. Your silk recharges to full capacity after every long rest.

As a bonus action, choose any two objects, creatures, or points on a solid surface that you can see within 60 feet of you that are not obstructed from each other. You can create a thread of spider silk affixed to both points, provided you have enough silk capacity. Creatures targeted by this feature must make a Dexterity Saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC to avoid being stuck. On a success, the end of the thread simply dangles or rests in place. Creatures can willingly fail this save.

Creatures stuck to your silk this way can still move, but cannot move in a manner that stretches your silk any longer than its initial length, unless it is able to drag the opposing affixed point. Any creature attached to the silk can spend their action to break free with a successful Strength (Athletics) check against your Warlock spell save DC. Once broken free, the silk simply dangles or rests in place.

Each thread of silk can hold up to 500 pounds individually before breaking. A thread of silk has an AC of 12 + your Charisma modifier and 1 hit point. The silk is flammable and has immunity to psychic and poison damage. Reducing a silk thread’s hit points to zero causes the whole thread to vanish. Any conjured silk vanishes at the end of your next long rest. As a bonus action, you can also choose one of your conjured silk threads to instantly vanish, freeing any objects or creatures attached to said silk.

Alternatively, you can simply conjure the silk as a raw material for use. Items or contraptions constructed with the silk disappear or fall apart when the silk disappears after the end of your next long rest.

Silkwalk

1st-level Spider Queen feature While you are traversing your own silk, your movement speed increases by 10 feet, you gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed, and you automatically succeed on Dexterity (Acrobatics) checks made to traverse the silk.

While you are in contact with your silk, you know the exact location of any other creature in contact with the same thread.

Envenomation

6th-level Spider Queen feature Your patron’s arachnid venom now flows through your blood. You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you gain resistance to poison damage.

In addition, when you hit a creature with an attack and roll damage against the creature, you can replace the damage type with poison damage. The creature must then make a Constitution saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC or be poisoned for 1 minute. The poisoned creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus. You regain all expended uses after a long rest.

Grasp of the Spider Queen

10th-level Spider Queen feature Your silk becomes retractable if originating from your body. You can now use your silk in the following manners:

  • As an action, choose one Large or smaller creature or loose object that you can see within 30 feet of you. Creatures must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC. On a failed save, you can conjure a thread of silk between you and the target, and the target is pulled up to within 5 feet of yourself.

  • As an action, choose one point on a solid surface that you can see within 30 feet of you that can support your weight. You can conjure a thread of silk between you and the chosen point and instantly pull yourself to its surface.

Using your silk in these manners expends the required length of silk to reach your specified targets, rounded up to the nearest 10 feet.

Arachnid Manifest

14th-level Spider Queen feature You are now able to manifest an aspect of your patron, the Spider Queen, on your own body. As a bonus action, you transform for one minute, causing four large arachnid limbs to protrude from your back. You gain the following benefits while transformed:

  • You can climb difficult surfaces, including upside down on ceilings, without needing to make an ability check. You gain a climbing speed equal to your walking speed.

  • Your movement speed increases by 10 feet.

  • You ignore difficult terrain.

Once per turn (no action required), your arachnid limbs can do one of the following without involving your normal limbs:

  • Produce silk. Your arachnid limbs can utilize any of the features from this subclass.

  • Make an unarmed strike against one creature within 10 feet of you. Unarmed strikes with your arachnid limbs deal piercing damage equal to 1d8 + your Charisma modifier.

  • Manipulate an object, open or close a door or container, pick up or set down a Tiny object, or any other benign object interactions that your DM determines as acceptable.

After transforming, you cannot use this feature again until your next long rest.

Additional Eldritch Invocations

Arachnid Architect

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron, 5th-level warlock You can expend 60 feet of silk to cast the Web spell without the use of a spell slot. This casting of Web does not require concentration. You can choose to change its casting time to 1 minute to carefully construct a structurally sound spiderweb, increasing its duration to 8 hours.

As a bonus action, you can disable or re-enable the stickiness of one web conjured in this manner. This affect the entire chosen web uniformly.

While you are in contact with your own web, at any point in time, you can choose whether you stick to the web or not.

Ensnaring Web

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron Whenever you are able to take an opportunity attack, you can instead use your reaction and expend 30 feet of silk to launch a web net against the triggering target if the creature is of Medium size or smaller. The creature must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC or be restrained for one minute. The creature can make a Strength saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the effect on itself on a success.

Network of Nerves

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron At the end of every long rest, you can choose up to half your maximum capacity’s worth of silk that you have previously conjured to not vanish. Furthermore, you are aware of any contact made with any of your silk at all times, as long as you are in the same plane as the silk.

Silent Silk

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron, 5th-level warlock Your silk is concealed in illusory magic. Creatures with a passive perception lower than your Warlock spell save DC are unable to see your silk, and require a successful Intelligence (Investigation) check against your Warlock spell save DC to discover them.

Sticky Coating

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron Your spider silk becomes more potent. Creatures coming into contact with your silk at any point during their turn must also make a Dexterity saving throw against your Warlock spell save DC or become stuck to your silk as well. A creature can willingly fail the save. Loose objects automatically get stuck to your silk on contact. Creatures stuck to your silk this way can still move, but cannot move in a manner that stretches your silk any longer than its initial length, unless it is able to drag at least one affixed point.

As a bonus action, you can disable or re-enable the stickiness of one silk thread that you have conjured. This affects the entire chosen thread uniformly.

While you are in contact with your own silk, at any point in time, you can choose whether you stick to the silk or not.

Webslinger

Prerequisite: The Spider Queen patron Whenever you use the Eldritch Weaver feature, you can immediately create one additional thread of silk. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Charisma modifier (minimum of one), and you regain all expended uses after finishing a short or long rest.
