The Awakened
Deep beneath the surface of Haven lies the Blightstone, a kingdom of the dead ruled by the Awakened. These creatures are masters of "unlife," and their advanced knowledge of magic and loyalty to long-forgotten gods make them a mysterious and feared presence in the land. Though they have many enemies, they are a formidable force in their underground domain.
The Awakened are cunning predators, using their breathless silence and strategic positioning to trap their prey. They strike with deadly precision, and those who venture too close to their obsidian spires rarely return to tell the tale. Delvers speak of the heart-rending horror of being relentlessly pursued by terrifying creatures, with no hope of escape.
Though their history is shrouded in mystery, the Awakened have become well-known throughout Haven for their reputation as deadly predators. Many appear undead, with deep, empty or brightly flashing eye sockets and rotted skin revealing their skeletal frames. They are highly aggressive toward the world above, particularly necromancers who are not of their kind.
Despite their hostility, the Awakened are friendly with most who share their way of "unlife." Their underground kingdom is a testament to the power of the undead, who are able to flourish in the endless Quarry of the Blightstone. Those who dare to cross their path do so at their own peril, for the Awakened are relentless in their pursuit of prey and fiercely protective of their kingdom.
