Martial Archetype: Spectral Blade

Death is a warrior’s surest companion. They are surrounded by it, enact it, yet few understand how close this relationship truly is. There is power in death; the power of the soul, weaponized by undead abominations such as wraiths, ghouls and the dreaded lich. A fighter possessed of the necessary courage – or madness – can learn to wield this strength, walking the line between the physical world and the vast, unknowable beyond.

Apparition's Aspect

When you select this archetype at 3rd level, you can slip the bonds of the material world, if only for a moment. You can use a bonus action to enter an incorporeal state until the beginning of your next turn. While incorporeal, you have resistance to all damage except radiant and bludgeoning, piercing and slashing damage from magical weapons, and you can move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. However, you can only move through up to 10 feet of material on each turn. If you end your turn or return to corporeality while occupying the same spot as a solid object or creature, you are immediately shunted to the nearest unoccupied space that you can occupy and take force damage equal to twice the number of feet you are moved. You can use this ability two times, and regain any expended uses when you finish a short or long rest.

When you reach 10th level in this class, you can use this ability three times before resting. When you reach 18th level, you can move through an unlimited amount of material on each turn.

Spook

At 7th level, your connection to undeath has grown. You are at home in the dark, and your presence unsettles the living. You gain darkvision out to 120 feet, and you have advantage on Stealth checks made to hide while you are within dim light or darkness.

Additionally whenever you make an Intimidation check, you gain a bonus to the check equal to your Constitution modifier (minimum of +1).

Hovering Horror

At 10th level, you gain the uncanny ability to defy gravity. You gain a flying speed equal to your walking speed.

Deathwalker

At 15th level, when you start your turn with 0 hit points, after you roll your death save, you can choose to exit your body and fight on as a spirit. You appear as a ghostly apparition in the space of your body. While in this form, you are incorporeal, as if gaining the benefits of your Apparition’s Aspect feature, and you assume a new pool of hit points equal to half your hit point maximum. While in this form, you cannot move more than 30 feet away from your body. Your body continues to make death saves as normal during this time. If your body is moved, you follow is so that you remain within 30 feet of it. You return to your body when it is stabilized, dies or regains hit points, or when you are reduced to 0 hit points in spirit form. When you return to your body, you return to its hit point total. Once you have used this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Ghostly Possession

At 18th level, you gain the ability to possess the bodies of others. As an action, you can attempt to possess a creature within 5 ft. of you. The target must succeed on a Charisma saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Constitution modifier. or be possessed by you; you disappear, and the target loses control of its body, but is not deprived of awareness. A possessed creature takes only the actions you choose, and doesn't do anything that you don't allow it to do. During this time, you can also cause the creature to use a reaction. The creature you are possessing uses your Intelligence, Wisdom and Charisma scores and alignment in place of its own.

The possession lasts until the creature you are possessing drops to 0 Hit Points or you end it as a bonus action. Additionally, spells such as Dispel Evil and Good which would end possession from an undead also affect you for the purposes of ending your possession. The possessed creature can repeat the save at the end of each of their turns, ending the effect on a success. When the possession ends, you reappear in an unoccupied space within 5 ft. of the target. Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
