The Swordmaster

A whirling dervish of blades, swordmasters train extensively to be able to wield swords as an extension of their own body. Whether clad in mountains of steel or in near weightless leathers, these warriors are unrelenting in their assault, slicing with perfect form until their enemies lie still. Their training often instills a deep sense of honor within the individual, but whether this value takes root is up to the swordmaster, as is how they apply their deadly skills. These fighters often work as gladiators, duelists or hired mercenaries.

Sword-Dancer

At 3rd level, your skill with swords become legendary. You gain the following benefits:

  • While wielding a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar, you can add +2 to your armor class as long as you are not wielding a shield.
  • While holding a sword, you can cast compelled duel without expending a spell slot, using your Dexterity or Strength as your spellcasting modifier. You can do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses when you finish a long rest.
  • You gain proficiency in performance, and whenever you make a perfromance check, you add your Strength or Dexterity modifier to the roll. (minimum of +1.)

Blade Stance

Also at 3rd level, you have trained to focus in and hone your skills in times of great need. As a bonus action, you can enter your sword stance for one minute or until you end it as a bonus action. While in your sword stance, you gain the following benefits:

  • Any attack you make using a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar deals an additional 1d6 damage.
  • Once per turn when you miss a creature with an attack using one of the previously mentioned weapons, you can immediately make another attack against the creature.

You can do so a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses when you finish a long rest.

Immaculate Duelist

Starting at 7th level, your mastery of the sword allows you quick ripostes. When a creature you can see targets you with an attack, you can use your reaction to add your proficiency bonus to your armor class, potentially causing the attack to miss. You can then make an attack against the creature with a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar as part of the same reaction.

Crippling Surge

Starting at 10th level, when you use action surge, you gain the following benefits until the start of your next turn:

  • Any creature you hit with a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar has disadvantage on attack rolls until the end of your next turn.
  • If you hit a creature with three attacks with a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar, it is stunned until the end of your next turn.

Sharp Wit

At 15th level, your swiftness with blades allows you to strike through the cowardly techniques of your enemies. When you make a Charisma, Intelligence or Wisdom saving throw, you can instead make an attack roll with a sword you are holding. If the attack roll is greater than the saving throw DC, you succeed on the saving throw
You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses when you finish a long rest.

Spirit Sword

By 18th level, your swords are so sharp that they can cut through both the weave and the silver thread connecting ones astral self. Once per turn when you hit a creature with a a longsword, shortsword, rapier or scimitar, you can cause one of the following effects:

  • You slice through the weave around them. You cast dispel magic at 5th level on the target as part of the attack, without expending a spell slot and using your Strength or Dexterity modifier as your spellcasting modifier.
  • You slice the silver cord connecting their spirit. They take 5d10 psychic damage. If you use this feature on a creature under the effects of astral projection, it dies instantly. You can use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, and regain all uses when you finish a long rest.
