Order of the Punisher 1.0
Ones under the Order of the Punisher
aren't satisfied with only bloodshed to
fuel their power, so they utilise their
pure life force in tandem.
Punisher's seek power from their soul
and the souls of others, and use desecrated acts of torture to get their ways and slowly draw out the soul to maximise effects. These brutal Bloodhunters want nothing more but the suffering of their enemies and their preservation.
Maiden's Embrace
When you join this order at 3rd level, you learn how to weave your soul into a device for pain. Whilst grappling someone on your turn, you can use an action to summon a spectral iron maiden and consume a grappled creature. Doing so gains the following benefits:
- Deal 1d6 piercing damage at the start of every turn the grappled creature is being consumed. This damage increases to 1d8 at 11th Level, and 1d10 at 18th Level.
- Whilst an enemy is being consumed, they cannot use any attacks or spells that deal damage, and they must either use a spell or an apposing strength check to release themselves from your grasp.
Additionally, if a creature is reduced to 0 hit points within the iron maiden, their leftover blood and guts harden and become sticky. You can make a ranged attack against a creature within 30ft and on a hit give disadvantage to their next weapon attack.
You can only consume a creature with a size category equal of smaller than yours, and if the creature's size category equals yours, the creature has advantage on strength checks made to end a grapple.
Bleeding Boon
Starting at 3rd level when you use the Maiden's Embrace feature, you can use a bonus action to siphon life force from the consumed creature into health. Regain a number of hit points equal to the last number of damage dealt to the consumed creature. You can only use this ability a number of times equal to your proficiency modifier per long rest.
Trial By Fire
Starting at 3rd level when you use the Maiden's Embrace feature, you can use an action to douse the consumed creature in soul fire, dealing enhanced damage to the creature while within the maiden, but damaging you in the process. When the creature is within the Iron Maiden, the piercing damage each turn becomes fire damage, the damage dice increases by a type, and you can add your intelligence modifer to the attack rolls. e.g. 1d8 + intelligence mod fire damage at 3rd level, 1d10 + intelligence mod fire damage at 11th level, and 1d12 + intelligence mod fire damage at 18th level. Whilst the creature is within you, the fire takes a part of your soul as fuel, dealing 1d4 fire damage at the start of your turn. 1d6 at 11th level, and 1d8 at 18th level.
Additionally, if the consumed creature is released from the
Maidens Embrace, they will continue to be doused in soul fire for 1 minute unless they use an action to settle the flames, and there wont be any damage taken to you. Whilst covered in soul fire, they take 1d6 fire damage at the start of each turn. 1d8 fire damage at 11th level, and 1d10 fire damage at 18th level.
Repent
At 7th Level, you learn how to weave your soul into a spectral whip, that stays on your side until needed. Repent acts as a regular whip and has the following properties:
- It has a range of 10ft at 7th Level, 15 ft at 11th level, and 20 ft at 18th level.
- It deals 1d4 damage at 7th Level and 2d4 damage at 11th Level.
- It counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances.
Attacks
Additionally, at 7th level you can use Repent to either push people away or pull them into your Embrace:
- When you hit a creature with an attack from repent you can choose to fling them away from you with a distance equal to Repent's range. This knockback distance doubles on a critical hit.
- When you hit a creature with an attack from repent you can choose to grapple them with your whip (apposed strength checks), and on a successful grapple, pull the creature into your Maiden's Embrace all in the same action.
These attacks can be used a number of time equal to proficiency modifier per long rest.
Improved Repent
At 11th Level, you can now add your intelligence modifier to each attack roll and when rolling damage, you can reroll 1's but have to keep the new result.
Improved Embrace
At 11th level, the piercing damage dealt by the Maiden's Embrace counts as magical for the purpose of overcoming resistances, and the size category limit is increased by 1 size category. e.g. a medium character can only consume a large or smaller creature, and the large creature would have advantage on strength checks made to end a grapple.
Searing Salt
At 15th level, you have learnt how to weave your soul into a weapon for maximum pain, a sharp, corrosive, and combustible powder you call searing salt. As an action, you can spray this powder from your mouth and each creature in a 15-foot cone must make a Dexterity saving throw. The creature takes 4d8 necrotic damage and is covered in the salt on a failed save, or no damage and no coverage on a successful save. A creature covered in searing salt, has their life force slowly corroded, dealing 2d8 damage at the end of each of their turns, unless they use an action to wipe it off. You can use searing salt once per long rest.
If a creature is on fire because of the Trial By Fire feature and covered in searing salt, the salt lights on fire and becomes much deadlier:
- The damage per round changes to fire damage.
- The damage increases to 4d8 at the start of the creatures turns and ignores resistance to fire damage.
- The enemy can no longer use an action to wipe it off, so the effect now lasts for 1d4 rounds, re rolling 1's and keeping the new result.
Belly of Blood
At 18th level, a creature just dawdling in your Iron Maiden can prove useful for your survival in a pinch. Once per long rest, if you are dropped to 0 hit points and there is a creature within your Iron Maiden, you can use your reaction to instantly deal 6d10 magical piercing damage to the creature within your embrace and heal for the amount of damage dealt. If the damage reduces the creature to 0 hit points, you can move up to 30 ft as a part of the reaction and consume a new creature without a grapple.
Improved Salt
At 18th level, creatures now take half damage on a successful save and the attack damage for the spray increases to 6d8 necrotic damage.
