Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Until initiative count 20 of the next roun, the dragon is considered to be invisible.
  • Moonlight covers a 60ft. radius around a point within 120ft. of the dragon. Creatures of the dragon's choice in range cannot benefit from being hidden or invisible. Additionally, attacks against those creatures have advantage. This light lasts until initiative count 20 of the next round.
  • The dragon can cast Hypnotic Pattern. The effect lasts until the dragon loses concentration or uses this lair action again.

Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary sylvan dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:

  • Portal to the Feywild appear 6 mile radius centered on its lair allowing Fey to freely travel between worlds.

  • Natural flora within 6 miles of the dragon's lair becomes overgrown and alien in appearance giving off strange bioluminescence akin to that of the Feywild.

  • While within 6 miles of the dragon's lair, the night is continually shrouded in dim light that is considered to be moonlight. Illusion and Transmutation spells of the dragon's choice have no effect in this light.

When the dragon dies, all of these regional effects immediately fade

Sylvan Dragons

Sylvan dragons are a rare species that make their home within the Feywild. However, despite their appearance, many scholars believe that sylvan dragons are not natural denizens of the Feywild, but somehow were stranded in this alien realm. However, due to their magical essence, sylvan dragons quickly acclimated to their new home and acquired many characteristics of the fey that live there.

Sylvan Dragon Appearance

Of all dragons, sylvan dragons are often considered to be the most beautiful, rivaled only by the pseudodragon or faerie dragons. Their most notable feature is their dazzling, multicolored wings that often resemble a cross between a bat's wing and a butterfly wing. Their wings and their scales also have the unique ability to reflect moonlight in bedazzle all those who gaze upon them.

Sylvan Dragon Tactics

In comparison to the rest of their kin, sylvan dragons are extremely tricky and elusive opponents, just like the many fey within their realm. Simply gazing upon the sylvan dragon is enough to muddle all but the most stalwart of minds as creatures become entranced by their dazzling wings. To make matters worse, sylvan dragons are notorious shapeshifters and illusionists that are able to change form at will or even turn invisible. In fact, their favorite tactic is to turn invisible only to return disguised as another form to confuse their enemies. However, their most powerful ability is their mastery of moonlight that grants them the ability to negate any form of illusion or transmutation-based magic. Thankfully, most sylvan dragons are rarely malevolent unless threatened and merely use their abilities to prank or taunt their opponents.
