Ranger Archetype

Fire Lancer

Fire Lancers are firearm specialists who openly embrace the combat applications of the relatively novel technological marvel that is the firearm. Despite existing at the forefront of progress, Fire Lancers have not forgotten their ties to nature and still call upon its magic to aid them. Equally comfortable up close as they are at a distance, Fire Lancers are renowned for their unflinching composure even on the most chaotic of battlefields.

Specialist Training

At 3rd level, you have received extensive instruction in the use of firearms, granting you proficiency with firearms. Additionally, thanks to further training you have developed a particular speciality. Choose one from the list below:

Assault Specialist. You get up close and personal. Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn't impose disadvantage on your ranged attack rolls.

Distant Specialist. You keep your distance and your composure. You double the range of firearms with which you are proficient.

Dueling Specialist. You know how to fight with both fire and sword. When you use the Attack action and attack with a one-handed weapon, you can use a bonus action to attack with a percussion you are holding.

Specialist Firearms

Also at 3rd level, you gain a set of firearms that have been tailored to your chosen Fire Lancer Speciality that are outlined below:

Assault Specialist. You gain a blunderbuss, and a pistol.

Distant Specialist. You gain a musket or a rifle, and a dragoon.

Dueling Specialist. You gain a pistol or a dragoon, and a percussion, or two percussions.

Advanced Tactics

At 7th level, you develop a tactic specific to your chosen Fire Lancer Speciality that is outlined below:

Blast Back (Assault Specialist). When you hit a creature with a firearm, you can attempt to push them back. The creature must make a Strength saving throw or be knocked back 10 feet. The DC for this feature is equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Wisdom modifier

Steady Aim (Distant Specialist). As a bonus action, you give yourself advantage on your next attack roll on the current turn. You can use this bonus action only if you haven't moved during this turn, and after you use the bonus action, your speed is 0 until the end of the current turn.

Quick Draw (Dueling Specialist). You gain advantage on your initiative rolls, and you can draw a firearm as part of the attack you make with the weapon.

Ready Rack

At 11th level, you modify your firearms to allow for a second rapid follow-up shot. You ignore the loading property of firearms with which you are proficient.

Volley Shot

At 15th level, you can briefly manifest a number of spectral firearms to lay waste to your foes. When you use the Attack action and attack with a firearm, you can gain a number of additional attacks equal to half your proficiency bonus. These additional attacks deal damage equal to the firearm's damage die or dice and do not benefit from any additional modifiers.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
