Warrior Archetype

Fighters gain access to the Warrior Archetype feature at 3rd level. Here is a new option for this feature, in addition to the ones presented in the Alternate Fighter.

Champion

Champions forgo all other forms of improvement to focus on enhancing their raw physical might. These immense figures strive to maintain peak physical condition through relentless training. In battle, Champions perform supernatural feats of athleticism and overwhelm their foes with their raw power.

Champion Exploits

You learn certain Exploits at the fighter levels noted in the table below. They don't count against your total number of Exploits Known and can't be switched upon gaining a level.

Fighter Level Exploit
3rd feat of strength, mighty leap
5th concussive blow, heroic will
9th mythic athleticism

Mighty Warrior

When you adopt this Archetype at 3rd level, your raw physical might enhances your attacks. Your weapon attacks now score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20. After scoring a critical hit on a weapon attack using Strength, you can regain an expended Exploit Die. You must finish a short or long rest before you can do so again.

When you reach 15th level, your critical hit range increases again. You score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20 on the d20.

Honed Physique

Also at 3rd level, you are an exemplar of physical ability, your every move proving your impressive athletic talents. You gain the following benefits:

  • When you make an attack with a weapon you're proficient with using Strength, you can use your Exploit Die in place of the weapon's normal damage die.
  • On your turn, you can expend an Exploit Die to increase your walking speed for that turn by an amount equal to 5 times your Strength modifier.
  • Climbing and swimming no longer cost extra movement for you.

Remarkable Athlete

You can regularly perform feats of athleticism that would be impossible for most mortals. Starting at 7th level, whenever you use either feat of strength or mighty leap, you can roll a d6 and use it instead of expending an Exploit Die.

When you reach 15th level, this d6 becomes a d10.

Brutal Critical

Starting at 10th level, you roll one additional weapon damage die when determining the extra damage for a critical hit.

This increases to two additional damage dice at 15th level.

Legendary Champion

You are a nearly perfect specimen of physical vigor, and have become exceedingly hard to kill. Starting at 18th level, if you start your turn with half of your hit points or less remaining, you regain hit points equal to 5 + your Constitution modifier. You do not regain any hit points if you are at 0 hit points.

This is a small tweak to the Champion as presented in LaserLlama's Alternate Fighter, designed to bring it closer in power to the other archetypes, maintain its simple playstyle, and heavily reward investment in the Strength score.

For a quick explanation of what's been changed, the Champion now gains the new Honed Physique feature, and Mighty Warrior is altered to allow them to regain a spent Exploit Die after scoring a critical hit, but only once per short or long rest.
