Lair Actions

On initiative count 20 (losing initiative ties), the dragon takes a lair action to cause one of the following effects; the dragon can’t use the same effect two rounds in a row:

  • Strong currents surge through the dragon's lair forcing each creature within 60ft. of the dragon to make a DC 20 Strength saving throw or be pushed back 60ft. On a success, creature are only pushed back 10ft.
  • A swirling vortex appearing as a 10ft. wide and 60ft. tall column centered around a spot the dragon can see within 60ft until the dragon dies or uses this ability again. When a creature enters the vortex for the first time on its turn or starts its turn there, it takes 18(4d8) bludgeoning damage and is restrained until the start of its next turn.
  • The water in the dragon's lair begins to grow incredibly cold or caustic. Creatures in a 20ft. cube around a spot that the dragon can see within 60ft. of it must succeed a DC 17 Constitution saving throw or take 23(5d8) acid or cold damage (the dragon's choice)

Regional Effects

The region containing a legendary sea dragon’s lair is warped by the dragon’s magic, which creates one or more of the following effects:

The dragon can alter weather at will in a 6 mile radius centered on its lair. The effect is identical to the control weather spell

Water within 1 mile of the dragon's lair become supernaturally turbulent and is considered to be difficult terrain.

The dragon can caus ehte surrounding waters within 1 mile of its lair to become supernaturally cold reaching 40 degrees Fahrenheit.

When the dragon dies, all of these regional effects immediately fade

Sea Dragons

Sea dragons are an aquatic variant of dragons that claim the ocean of their domains. Despite residing primarily within the water, sea dragons seek to maintain constant contact with the surface world. The amber of this relationship can vary depending on the individual as some serve as guardians protecting the surface world from other underwater threats or cruel overlords of their aquatic territories demanding tribute of those in water.

Sea Dragon Appearance

Sea dragons are quite easy to recognize due to their glittering scales that scintillating with various shades of green and blue. Although most sea dragons share the same color scheme, they have been known to develop various characteristics resembling their environment. For example, coastal sea dragons may have bony protrusions that resemble corals while sea dragons living deep within trenches may sport bioluminescent scales.

Combat Tactics

Sea dragons are incredibly effective fighters while underwater. Their movements are extremely graceful as if they see flying underwater and can easily outmaneuver other underwater creatures such as dragon turtles and kraken. If possible, the sea dragon will attempt to use this to its advantage, especially against terrestrial opponents. However, their greatest advantage is their versatility. Despite their aquatic nature, they are proficient fighters on the land as well as the air.
