Genasi

Their blood is said to be mingled with the raw elements from the elemental planes, the magic power of genies, and the blood of human mortals. This union is what has caused genasi to take shape in the world of Endorrain.

Genasi are walking representations of the elements and elemental planes. It is often believed that their power coordinates directly to the plane itself. If the plane experiences a surge in power, a genasi which matches the respective element may also feel the same surge.

At some point in time during their existence, a curse was laid upon some of the genasi which trapped them within seemingly random and common objects. This forced genasi to become enslaved, following the bidding of whomever picks up and finds their object. It's common belief that at some point in time, a genasi had tricked or otherwise disrespected Mystra which led the curse to be laid upon them. While not all genasi are cursed, it's just as common to find them not.

There are three different classifications of genasi. First are those who simply are free and exist as normal beings would. Then there are the bound and unbound (or cursed and uncursed).

Those who are bound will be bound to a common object that can hold their essence or soul. This is most typically objects like: vases, jars, cups, chests, bottles, lamps, or gems. Often the item is also tied to their chosen element (such as a red gem for a fire genasi).

Genasi that are bound to objects must obey the commands of whomever picks them up and activates them (either by opening the lid or rubbing the side of the object, similar to the genies with which they share their magic blood with).

Bound genasi are forbidden from harming their masters (aka those who find the object they are bound to). They can be unbound either by release of their master stating "I hereby release thee from thy bounds" or if the object they are contained in is shattered or otherwise broken. However it is incredibly dangerous to break the object a genasi is housed in as there is only a 30% survival rate for the genasi's body to not be injured in this process. Often those who have survived are left with unusual scars and wounds from their containers being smashed.

Unbound genasi are those who have been given freedom. They are no longer bound to the object they were initially tied to - now living their lives as entirely free beings. They can use their magic and abilities for whomever they wish - whenever they wish.

Elemental Beings

All genasi are human-shaped in appearance, but each have different physical attributes depending on the elemental plane they resemble.

Air. Air genasi look the closiest to their genie relatives. They often have skin tones that match the shade of the sky such as light or dark blues. Often a faint breeze always follows them, keeping their hair tousled.

They may have unusual patterns on their skin or gemstones embedded on them. More rarely, they may have extra arms as well.

Earth. Earth genasi often have earthy skin tones such as brown or black but some may be more brilliantly colored, matching the gemstones found in the earth. It's not uncommon to find an earth genasi with dirt or mud that just doesn't seem to wash away. Others may have minerals or gemstones embedded onto their skin.

Fire. Fire genasi often have skin tones which range from crimsons, to deep oranges, to coal-blacks. A common feature among fire genasi is having radiant hair which emits a fiery light around them and eyes that glow in the dark. Some genasi even have actual flame for their hair, which can burn bright in times of passion.

Water. Water genasi typically come in more cool colors that match the ocean such as blues or greens. They often have a glistening appearance to them, as if they are always covered in moisture. They tend to have eyes that are a little larger than the average human, almost in some resemblance to fish. Often a water genasi has hair which will move in an abnormal way - like as if they were suspended in water.

Genasi Names

While some genasi take a name from the culture they are raised within, it's also common for genasi to take upon names for themselves that represent the elemental plane they come from, fully taking on their heritage.
