Bubble Motes
Bubble motes are the infant form of all water-based elementals. They can be found in the depths of the Elemental Plane of Water. However, they can also be commonly found in the Material Plane as they often wander into the realm through interplanar portals or rifts.
Bubbly Form
As their name suggests, these baby elementals resemble rather large bubbles that could fit in the hand of a fully grown humanoid. At first glance, they are nearly indistinguishable from true bubbles while in their natural state. However, keen observers can identify their true elemental nature due to the slight glow of their elemental essence in their cores. Additionally, their behavior also can reveal their true nature thanks autonomous movement, unlike true bubbles. Occasionally, they may assume another form as they slowly begin to learn to alter their form at will.
Elemental Schools
As they are naturally skittish entities, bubble motes tend to congregate in massive schools for protection. If one encounters a rather unnatural collection of writhing bubbles deep with a lake or sea, it is probably a sign that it truly is a school of bubble motes. Although bubble motes are relatively harmless by themselves, their presence tends to attract other more powerful elementals, who either seek to protect them, or view them as a source of food.
Beneficial Familiars
Many arcane and druidic societies welcome the presence of bubble elementals as they play a beneficial role in the local ecosystem. In fact, some societies even have small farms dedicated to attracting and raising bubble motes. Since bubble motes absorb minerals and nutrients from the water, they can be used to purify local waterways and sewer system. Additionally, since these motes are raised from their infant stage, they are able to be easily trained as loyal familiars, especially when fully grown.
Battle Tactics
As mentioned before, bubble motes are typically harmless creatures and prefer to flee from any form of confrontation. While underwater, bubble motes are at their strongest thanks to their ability to quickly blend into their surroundings, completely disappearing from view. However, despite their weak form, bubble motes can prove to be quite useful familiars. Their liquid body allows them the alter their shape at will to slip through the narrowest of cracks. These also have the ability to elongate their form, akin to that of an ooze, to create pseudopods to grasp objects 10ft. away. However, their most useful power is their ability to create magical bubbles that explode on impact, instantly dousing all but the most powerful of flames in the vicinity.
