Angel

The actual truth behind the origin of the angels is unknown. The most wildly accepted belief is that they were - at some point in time - touched by a celestial figure which granted them their wings and affinity for learning emotions. Another popular theory is that they were created by Ilmater to help ease the pain of the people of Endorrain.

Angels are said to have a natural aura about them which instill virtue to those near them: inspiring things like kindness and self control. They have a natural affinity for healing and can easily calm the emotions of those around them when situations grow tense.

Angels originate from the Echoing Mountains, where their scattered villages are nestled in the frost-nipped peaks. Cloudgrasp is the largest of their settlements, tucked away at the highest peak of the mountains. Living both on the mountains and so high in the air has made them particularly hard and their lungs strong. They survive off very little, usually herding rams and growing unusual gardens which can survive at their altitude.

Traditional families of angels live incredibly pious lives, worshipping deities like Akadi, Auril, Grumbar, and Ilmater. Many find themselves to be "above" the rest of the people of Endorrain, as they have claimed the highest peak for themselves. This had led some to be reclusive and distrusting of the rest of the world.

Heavenly Body

Most commonly found with bronze skin and dark hair, angels embody the very definition of beauty. In fact, an angel is so beautiful it reaches a point where they are almost too perfect: many even find it difficult to look away from an angel's gaze. This is particularly the case if you happen to make eye contact with an angel, as their eyes are normally a deep golden color that absolutely entrances those who look into them. You will never find an angel with a blemish or single flaw across their entire physical body, except for maybe the occasional scar.

Their key distinguishing feature is the pair of large, powerful wings that sprout from between their shoulder blades. Angel's wings are typically colored to match that of birds found throughout the world. The most common wings you'll find are those that belong to birds like hawks or eagles, but some angels have more detailed and intricate wings like those of a hummingbird’s or birds-of-paradise.

Fallen Angel

Sometimes angels can lose their wings. There are a couple of ways that this can happen. Angels who turn away from virtue and instead turn to sin can lose their wings. Wings can also be forcibly removed from injuries or magic. It is not an easy process, to lose one's wings. It is said to be excruciatingly painful for the angel to experience. Many fallen angels say that years after their wings have been removed, and their backs are still as sensitive as if they were just removed.

When an angel loses their wings, the virtuous magic within them also dissipates. Some fallen angels feel like empty shells of their past selves. Others find it freeing, like a heavy burden has been lifted off their shoulders.

Fallen angels look like regular angels, but their wings are no longer there. Sometimes they will be a mangled mess behind them. Other times they may only have stumps or bumps as reminders of what was once there.
