Sylvan oni

Sylvan oni are some of the rarest kinds of oni on the Material Plane. Sylvan oni are usually ogres who have been touched by the chaotic magic of the Feywild; either by an exposure to an interplanar rift to the Feywild or through as a result of the magical whims of a fey trickster. Although the source of their magical abilities is not nearly as malevolent as with the rest of their kind; one should not mistake a sylvan oni to be a benevolent creature as there are incredibly sinister and devious entities.

Sylvan Form

Sylvan onis share many of the same base characteristics of other kinds of oni. However, they can be easily distinguished from the rest of their kin due to their strangely colored skin, which is often a bright hue of blue, red, yellow, or some other outlandish color. Whereas most oni tend to have horns similar to that of a devil, sylvan oni often sport a pair of jagged antlers protruding from their head. However, their most notable feature is their eyes. Most sylvan oni tend to have third central eye that has a milky and luminescent appearance. This third eye not only gives it the ability to see a creature's true form but also acts as a source of their frightful powers.

Psychedelic Terror

Just like the rest of their kind, the sylvan oni relishes the terror of its prey. Due to their mastery of fey magic, these ogres are able to use their victim's fear to send them into a hallucinatory trance. Creatures trapped in this illusory dream believe that they are trapped in a pocket reality created by the oni in which they are unable to escape.

Illusory Hunters

When hunting, sylvan oni tend to be quite playful in their cruelty. They enjoy creating illusions that feed specifically into their victim’s fears. Thanks to their ability to see through any illusion, sylvan onis are completely unaffected by any sort of illusion or magical disguises. As a result, they can easily navigate their labyrinth of illusions that they create to ensnare their prey and to ensure their victims lose its sense of reality.

Battle Tactics.

Due to their unique ability to send their victims into a hallucinatory trance, sylvan oni tend to be very elusive and patient hunters, especially when engaging multiple opponents at a time. In combat, the oni's first priority is to frighten or charm as many creatures as it can at one time. If it is not able to affect a creature with its natural aura, it will resort to its spells to terrorize their opponents. Despite their incredible strength and durability, these oni prefer to only engage in physical combat when their opponent's guard is down. Instead, it will rely on magical illusions to distract or incapacitate potential threats. If the identifies a potentially dangerous foe, such as one wielding silvered weapons, the oni will direct all its attention to that creature to eliminate that treat as quickly as possible. If the oni begins to be overwhelmed or if their prey is unaffected by its illusions, the oni is not afraid to make a hasty retreat using its Misty Blink.

Brutality When the sylvan oni deals a critical hit or reduces a creature to 0 hitpoints, creatures of the sylvan oni's choice within 10ft. of it must succeed a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw or become frightened by the sylvan oni until the end of its next turn.

Delusional Terror Creatures charmed and frightened by the oni are lost in an illusion of the sylvan oni's choice. and can only hear itself, the sylvan oni, and the illusion.

Fearmonger When the sylvan oni takes the Attack action against a creature that is frightened, the sylvan oni can make one additional attack with its Sylvan Mace

Otherworldly Presence Any creature within 30 feet of the sylvan oni must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw, unless the sylvan oni is incapacitated. On a failed save, the creature is considered both charmed and frightened until the start of its next turn. If a creature's saving throw is successful, the creature is immune to the sylvan oni's Otherworldly Presence for the next 24 hours.

Magic Weapons The sylvan oni's weapon attacks are magical.

Regeneration The sylvan oni regains 10 hitpoints at the start of its turn if it has at least one hitpoint. If the sylvan oni takes damage from an attack that is silvered, this trait doesn't function at the start of the sylvan oni's next turn.

Sylvan Sight The sylvan oni can see through illusions or any form of invisibility.

Innate Spellcasting

The sylvan oni's innate spellcasting ability is Charisma (spell save DC 17). The sylvan oni can innately cast the following spells, requiring no material components:

3/day each Dominate Person, Fear, Fast Friends, Mirror Image

2/day each Hallucinatory Terrain, Hypnotic Pattern, Phantasmal Killer

Actions

Multiattack. The sylvan oni makes two attacks with its Sylvan Mace

Sylvan Mace. Melee Weapon Attack +8 to hit, reach 10ft., one target, Hit 11(2d6+4) bludgeoning damage +9(2d6)piercing damage. If the target is charmed or frightened, it takes an additional 9(2d8) psychic damage.

Change Shape The sylvan oni can magically polymorph into a Small or Medium humanoid, a Small or Medium Fey, into a Large giant, or back to its true form. Other than its size, its statistics remain the same in each form. If the sylvan oni dies, it reverts to its true form. Its weapons and gear can transform to match its appropriate size.

Bonus Actions

Misty Blink The sylvan oni can use its bonus action to teleport up to 30ft. to a spot that it can see within range.
