Barbarian Subclass: Path of the Titan

Many claim that they can derive their family lineage back to the Giants. However, there are only a select few who have enough Giant blood flowing through their veins to draw on this ancient power. You are one such individual, and are able to harness this ancient magic to aid you in battle.

Subclass Features

Giant Power

3rd-Level Path of the Giant Feature

When you choose this path, you learn to speak, read, and write Giant or one other language of your choice if you already know Giant. Additionally, you learn either the druidcraft or thaumaturgy cantrip (your choice). Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this spell.

Your rages pull strength from the primal might of giants, transforming you into a hulking force of destruction. While raging, you gain the following benefits:

  • Crushing Hurl. When you make a successful ranged attack with a thrown weapon using Strength, you can add your Rage Damage bonus to the attack’s damage roll.
  • Giant Stature. Your reach increases by 5 feet, and if you are smaller than Large, you become Large, along with anything you are wearing. If there isn’t enough room for you to become Large, your size doesn’t change.

Rune Weapon

3rd-Level Path of the Titan feature

You choose one melee weapon with which you are proficient. You engrave runes detailing your clan's heritage on this weapon, inbuing it with the power of your ancestors. The connection you form with both your imbued weapon, as well as the spirits of your ancestors that now reside within it make the weapon gain the following properties:

  • Returning. The weapon gains the thrown property with a short range of 20 and a long range of 60 feet. You can summon it to return to your hand immediately after you hit or miss an attack, and at the end of your turn.
  • Ancestral Guidance. When you wield your Rune Weapon, you feel like your ancestors are guiding your strikes. If you are wielding your Rune Weapon in both hands, you gain a bonus to your attack roll equal to half your proficiency bonus rounded up. In addition, if your Rune Weapon has the versatile property, you can use the two-handed damage die even if you are wielding it in one hand.

This ritual takes one hour and can be performed during a short rest.

Elemental Cleaver

6th-Level Path of the Giant Feature

Your bond with the elemental might of giants and their ilk grows, and you learn to infuse weapons with primordial energy.

When you enter your rage, you can infuse your Rune Weapon with one of the following damage types: cold, fire, thunder, or lightning. While you wield the infused weapon during your rage, the weapon’s damage type changes to the chosen type, it deals an extra 1d6 damage of the chosen type when it hits. The infused weapon’s benefits are suppressed while a creature other than you wields it. While raging and holding the infused weapon, you can use a bonus action to change the infused weapon’s current damage type to a different one from the above damage types.

Titanic Guidance

10th-Level Path of the Giant Feature

Even the ancient Titans from which you are descended look upon you with pride. You may enhance the qualities of your Rune Weapon in one of the two following ways:

  • Empowered Rune Weapon. The bond you forge with your Rune Weapon improves as you spend more time with it. Over the course of a long rest, you may create an Empowered Rune Weapon. With this weapon, the elemental damage die increases to a 1d8, and you can critically strike an opponent with a 19 or 20 on the attack roll.
  • Second Rune Weapon. Instead, you may create a second Rune Weapon, with the identical creation ritual and properties of the one you created at 3rd level. If you create a third Rune Weapon you may choose which of the original two loses its enchantment.

You may change the properties of your Rune Weapon(s) over the course of a long rest.

Demiurgic Colossus

14th-Level Path of the Giant Feature

The primordial power of your rage intensifies. When you rage, your reach now increases by 10 feet, your size can increase to Huge, and the extra damage dealt by your Elemental Cleaver feature increases to 2d6 each for two weapons, or 2d8 for an Empowered Rune Weapon.
