Blade of Light and Shadows
Weapon (longsword), legendary (requires attunement)
This item appears to be a Longsword hilt. While grasping the hilt, you can use a Bonus Action or your object interaction to cause a blade of pure Radiance to spring into existence, or make the blade disappear. While the blade exists, this magic Longsword has the Finesse property. If you are proficient with shortswords or longswords, you are proficient with the Blade of Light and Shadows. It can also be used as a spellcasting focus and you also learn the shadow blade spell if you have spellcasting feature while you are attuned to the weapon.
The sword's luminous blade emits bright light in a 15-foot radius and dim light for an additional 15 feet. The light is sunlight. While the blade persists, you can use an action to expand or reduce its radius of bright and dim light by 5 feet each, to a maximum of 30 feet each or a minimum of 10 feet each.
Dormant
The longsword grants the following benefits in its dormant state:
You gain a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon, which deals radiant damage instead of slashing damage. When you hit a creature with it, that target takes an extra 1d6 radiant damage. This damage is doubled when you hit an undead creature.
As a bonus action, or as a part of the bonus action you use to make the blade appear, you can cast the spell Shadow Blade without expending a spell slot. Once you use this ability, you can not do so until the next dawn.
When you cast the spell using this feature, or you cast shadow blade while attuned to the Blade of Light and Shadows, it does not require concentration, and it is unaffected by the light of this longsword as long as there is no other light sources effecting it. While the spell is active, you can use your bonus action to dismiss the shadow blade, or make it reappear in your empty hand.
Awakened
When the longsword reaches an awakened state, it gains the following properties:
The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +2, and the extra radiant damage dealt by the weapon increases to 2d6.
When you use the weapons ability to cast the shadow blade spell, or cast it using your own spellcasting feature, the spell lasts for 8 hours and it is cast at one level higher than normal (Third level if you do not have spellcasting feature).
Exalted
When the longsword reaches an exalted state, it gains the following properties:
The weapon’s bonus to attack and damage rolls increases to +3, and the extra radiant damage dealt by the weapon increases to 3d6. Radiant damage dealt by the longsword ignores resistance to radiant damage.
You have resistance to radiant damage while you hold this weapon.
When you use the weapons ability to cast the shadow blade spell, it is cast at your highest spell slot if you have spell slots or pact magic feature, or third level if you do not. You can chose to deal necrotic damage instead of psychic damage with the shadow blade. Necrotic damage dealt by the shadow blade ignores resistance to necrotic damage.
You have resistance to necrotic damage while you hold the shadow blade.
