The Astrologian

The young owlin places one foot over the other against the rocky terrain beneath their feet, looking at the small blades of grass that peak through the snow covered stone - the early signs of spring, the turn of the season. Following the same path their master had tread years before, making a journey at the earliest turn of spring possible. They look down at the stone beneath their feet, talons scratching the surface as they intentionally shield their eyes from the night sky, wanting to wait until they were at mountain's peak during the darkest night of the year. The best night to stargaze. The owlin thought of the idea of the moon, vanished before their eyes as they look up at the vast sky-sea. A ritual amongst those that followed in the light of the sun and moon, to at one point be able to glance upward and see the infinities that lay before them, the owlin's master, the master before them, and even the one before them - passing this ritual outward, a view closest to the stars any had seen.

The elven apothecary set to perform a ritual at the height of the moon, pleading and praying to the stars above that the pultice created will cure her sick child. She reaches towards the sky - hand outstretched, as if greeting an old companion, and plucks from it a single star. She looks towards her home once more as she adds it to the concoction, giving it an unearthly glow.

The goliath explorer finds no refuge in the tight-bound burrows of the Underdark. The only solace granted to them are the long, twisting groups of glowworms that litter the cavern ceiling. They have been traversing these halls for days in efforts to find a companion taken away by a mind flayer expedition to the surface. The goliath sends forward a small cloud of energy by cracking a piece of star in his hand just as he feels the tug of his mind being read. In a split second, the star turns to dust and encompasses the adventuring party - where the mental tug soon fades, as faint starlight illuminates the passage.

Astrologian are intermediaries between the ever spanning skies and what lies below. Their powers bestowed upon them by their love and study for the skies above, they strive to research and uncover secrets of the past in efforts to discover what the skies of yesterday and tomorrow may hold.

Listless Skywatchers

Enigmatic and curious, varied in colors, permutations, and majesties, the vast horizon above draws in those that seek to lose themselves in the endless expanse. Some aspire to further understand the lights that rest above and render the night sky alight - and others seek to travel through and observe for themselves the beauty of the stars, constellations, and creatures abound therein and thereout.

Astrologian live and die by the sky, stars, and what lurks above while the moon and sun are high. They seek and learn constantly of the lores of stars past and forgotten sky. They learn new star patterns as they continue to find and create new constellations of their own. Also beseeching help from other Astrologian, from ancient stargazers, sailors, and even ancient creatures that have seen different skies than even they.

A Limerence With Sky

Astrologians can be carefree, or be totally engrossed with an understanding of the skies above them, whether it be the morning skies, or twilights in between. Either way, both find themselves further away from cities and towns, or, in high observatories, wed to libraries in the hearts of cities to get the best views of the heavens possible.

But, the lure of ancient constellations, celestial bodies, and power calls even to the most unadventurous Astrologians out of their observatories, their hovels, their tents, and into crypts, ruins, and lost cities. Believing that past Astrologians of old knew of different constellations, suns, and skies lost to the ages - that this knowledge discovered once more could lead to a path of understanding, passage, or even power - greater than that in any present age.

Creating Your Astrologian

Astrologians thrive on the strange wonders and occurrences of the sky, night or day, and the observations that follow. How did your character first become interested in the night sky? Does it have a hold over you, or do you have a hold over it? How did you gather a hold over it? Was it given to you, or through study, you’ve discovered that the sky is not what it seems, and you can bend it to your will? Perhaps you and the stars have become very close friends with one another, helping each other out seemingly by serendipity. Have you even encountered a magical creature of yore or an ancient tome that taught you or opened your eyes to the sky?

What drew you into this life of observation and control? Did your first investment in the sky leave you enamored with it for the first time, or were you forced into it by another? Have you heard of an unseen whispered constellation not yet recognized?

Equipment

You start with the following equipment, in addition to the equipment granted by your background:

  • (a) a rapier or (b) any simple weapon
  • (a) a component pouch or (b) an arcane focus
  • (a) a scholar's pack or (b) an explorer's pack
  • An Astrolabe and an Almagest (Book of Constellations)

Quick Build

You can make an Astrologian quickly by using these suggestions. First, make Intelligence your highest ability score followed by Constitution. Second, choose the Sage background. Third, choose the Dancing Lights, Guidance, and Sacred Flame Cantrips, along with the spells Guiding Bolt and Faerie Fire

Astral Arcanum

Through study, observation, adoration, or astral intervention, you have learned how to manipulate, tangle, and reshape the sky into harmony or discordance at your whimsy. Your Astral Arcanum is a plethora of discoveries or gifts from the stars that have given you the facility with spells.

Cantrips

At 1st level, you know three cantrips of your choice from the Astrologian spell list. You learn additional Astrologian cantrips of your choice at higher levels, as shown in the Cantrips Known column of the Astrologian table.

Spells Known of 1st Level and Higher

The Astrologian table shows how many spells you have. You may cast each spell known a single time, regaining use of the spell when you finish a long rest. Whenever you cast a spell of first level or higher that deals damage or restores hit points, you may roll one additional die for each of the damage or healing rolls.

The Spells Known column of the Astrologian table shows when you learn more Astrologian spells of your choice. Each of these spells must be of a level for which you can cast, shown on the table. You must learn spells as per the spread shown in the Astrologian table.

For example, if you are a 3rd-level Astrologian, you have four 1st-level spells that you may cast one time each, and you have 2 2nd-level spells that you may cast one time each. If you cast the 1st-level spell cure wounds, you roll 2d8 instead of one.

Spellcasting Ability

Usually, Astrologians utilize Intelligence as their spellcasting ability for their spells, though at the start of play, you may speak with your DM about utilizing a different mental ability score as your spellcasting ability (though for the sake of the article, it will refer to the spellcasting modifier hereafter as intelligence). The power of your spells comes from your observations and invocations of constellations, stars, and the skies as they stand, whether that be through servitude, research, symbiosis, or intervention.

You use your Intelligence whenever an Astrologian spell refers to your spellcasting ability. In addition, you use your Intelligence modifier when setting the saving throw DC for an Astrologian spell you cast and when making an attack roll with one.

Spell Save DC = 8 + your proficiency bonus +

your Intelligence modifier

Spell attack modifier = your proficiency bonus +

your Intelligence modifier

Ritual Casting

You can cast an Astrologian spell as a ritual if that spell has the ritual tag and you have the spell known. Casting a spell in this way doesn't expend it's use.

Spellcasting Focus

You can use an Astrolabe, a Moonstone, a piece of star, a jar of glowworms, or a wand as a spellcasting focus in addition to other spellcasting foci for your Astrologian spells.

Star Fragments

You have the ability to will a fragment of the endless sky down before you. To do so, you use a bonus action on your turn to choose one willing creature or a space within 60 feet of you. That creature or space now bears a Star Fragment.

A Star Fragment emits a 10ft radius of bright light, and another 10ft radius of dim light, if it is attached to a creature, it moves with them as they move.

When you cast a spell, you may choose for the spell to originate from the Star Fragment (such as attaching a star to an ally and casting the 1st level spell Burning Hands, it would originate from their space.)

If the spell has a range of touch, it can target any creature within 5 feet of the Star Fragment. If the spell has a range of self, and the fragment is attached to a creature, it can target that creature.

Star Fragments last for 10 minutes, have an AC of 8 + Your Intelligence Modifier and Hit Points equal to double your Astrologian Level. After 10 minutes, Star Fragments fizzle before burning out and turning into a small pile of ash.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier + 1 (for a minimum of 1). You regain any expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Constellation Vessel

Starting at 2nd level, you've immersed yourself in study and teachings with the sky, stars, and astral bodies above, fueling your actions and resolve. Choose a following constellation pattern, it lasts until you pick a new one on a long rest.

Constellation Effects
The Sun The light emitted from your Star Fragments increases to a 15ft radius of bright light and another 15ft radius of dim light
The Moon You can speak telepathically with creatures that bear a star fragment
The Huntress You make Wisdom (Survival) checks to track creatures, make camp, and forage at advantage.
The Vampire Upon observing blood in some way (Tasting, smelling), you can determine the creature type (Humanoid, Aberration, Monstrosity, etc.) of what it came from.
The Vizier When you make an attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, you may reroll the die and use either roll. You cannot use this feature again until you complete a long rest.
The Beast Your walking speed increases by 10, and you gain a climb speed equal to your walking speed.
The Performer You make Charisma (Performance) checks at advantage. Additionally, as a bonus action, you can grant a willing creature within 5 feet of a Star Fragment temporary hit points equal to your Spellcasting Ability Modifier + your proficiency bonus.
The Juggernaut Your AC increases by 2, you have disadvantage on Dexterity checks and saving throws
The Scholar You make Intelligence (History) checks at advantage, you know which way is north, and you can perfectly recall any information learned while under the effects of this Constellation
The Twins When a creature bears a Star Fragment, you know their current location, their direction, and their travel speed.
The Craftsman Select a set of Artisan’s tools. You gain a bonus equal to your proficiency bonus to checks made using the selected set
The Antiquarian When you select this constellation, you are gifted an Astral Pouch from the skies of which you choose the appearance. The Astral Pouch weighs 1 pound, and can hold up to 10 pounds, and can be summoned from or dismissed back to the skies as an Action. When you choose a new constellation, the Astral Pouch returns to the skies, expelling its contents around you.
The Void Your Star Fragments are invisible, and creatures have disadvantage on attack rolls against them

Astral Observation

At 3rd level, you have specialized in observing a specific type of celestial body. Choose one Observation of the Sky to specialize in: Nebula, Gas Giant, Radiant Star, Dark Star, Streaking Comet, or Cloud, each of which is detailed at the end of this class description.

Your Astral Observation grants you features as 3rd level, and again when you reach 6th and 14th level in this class.

Glimpse Beyond

At 6th Level, looking to the stars has given you solace, answers, and respite from the world around you. You’ve learned how to perform a ritual to delve deeper into the mysteries and abilities of the skies and starlight. You may spend one hour, which can be completed over the course of a short or long rest partaking in this ritual. In so doing you may do one of the following:

  • Ask a question to the skies, stars, and nebula beyond for guidance for an event that is to occur within the next day. The DM can choose to respond in a cryptic omen, poem, or other sign in response to the question, as the skies may or may not answer your call.
  • Call a Star from the skies above to regain the use of one expended Star Fragment.
  • Perceive the skies, making observations and taking parts in study, regaining the use of a spell with a level equal to a third of your level rounded down, with a minimum of 1.

Binary System

At 10th level, when you cast a spell third level or lower and have at least one Star Fragment within 60 feet of you, you can have the spell originate from both the Star Fragment and yourself. A creature cannot be affected by both instances of the spell.

At 14th level, you can duplicate spells of fourth level or lower in this way.

At 18th level, you can duplicate spells of fifth level or lower in this way. Additionally, a creature can be affected by both instances of the spell.

Living Constellation

At 20th level, you have surpassed the need to simply observe, and instead have become the product. You may now have 2 constellation effects active at any given time. Additionally, you can swap either or both after you finish a short or long rest.

Astral Observations

The focus of your observation determines the shape of your magic. Choose one of the following Observations at 3rd level: Nebula, Gas Giant, Radiant Star, Dark Star, Streaking Comet, or Cloud.

Nebula

In the expanse, Astrologians understand nebulas to be both the beginning and the end. Wide and spanning, they stretch through the skies and smatter them with a multitude of colors. Some Astrologians believe these bodies are vast and varied enough to study solely these nebulae. Both the stellar nursery and graveyard, Astrologians extrapolate great meaning and purpose from the sheer existence of these bodies.

“Before our sun, and our sky - there was it’s dawn, and it’s twilight left behind. The first stars were born from these very same nebulae, and I will be just so.”

Among all Astrologian, the study of nebulae is important to further understanding of the skies, though those that specialize in these celestial bodies find comfort, and are usually revered by other Astrologians for their dedication.

Nebula Spells

Observation of nebulae lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Fog Cloud, Chaos Bolt
3rd Borrowed Knowledge, Detect Thoughts
5th Counterspell, Hypnotic Pattern
7th Hallucinatory Terrain, Private Sanctum
9th Mislead, Modify Memory

Formless Mind

At 3rd level, your awareness has fractured and been deconstructed. The horizon splits in twain and the possibilities grow infinite. You may add your Intelligence modifier to your Wisdom (Perception) checks.

Additionally, as an action, you may expend a Star Fragment to extend your vision around corners and above walls up to a range of 10 feet away. Your vision can traverse small holes, narrow openings, and even mere cracks. This effect lasts 10 minutes.

Expansion

Also at 3rd level, you gain the ability to expand a Star Fragment - causing it to twist and turn, spreading into clouds of stardust, smoke, and ether; creating a multicolored nebula. As a bonus action, you may choose a Star Fragment within 60 feet of you and cause it to expand into a nebula.

When a Star Fragment expands, it stops emitting light, and creates a small, immobile nebula in the area where it originally shed bright light. Until the end of your next turn, creatures inside the nebula are lightly obscured and have half cover. When the effect expires, the nebula disperses into harmless stardust and smoke.

Remade

At 6th level, your observations have granted control over the remnants of celestial bodies and the stellar graveyards in the eternal sea to coalesce and create tangible energy, bolstering both you and your allies' attacks.

When a creature bears a Star Fragment, they can use a bonus action to destroy the Star Fragment and cause latent power to erupt from it, dealing additional radiant damage equal to a number of d4 equal to your proficiency bonus the next time they hit a creature with an attack. This effect lasts for one minute or until they hit a creature with an attack.

Additionally, the creature gains temporary hit points equal to the amount of the additional radiant damage dealt.

Boundless

At 14th level, your spells have become akin to the sprawling nebula above: malleable and amorphous, blurring their boundaries. You’ve learned to condense the remnants of Star Fragments to benefit you and your allies.

When you target a willing creature with a spell originating from a Star Fragment, you may target additional willing creatures of your choice within the area of bright light emitted by the fragment.

In order to cast a spell in this way, you must expend a number of Star Fragments equal to the number of additional creatures you wish to be affected.

Gas Giant

The pursuit of new observation and discovery in the skies never completes. As old observatories built under the light of Gas Giants fall to ruin and disarray - their view fades with them. However, there are few who are stubborn, and seek these abandoned skylines, these ancient observatories; dreaming to inhabit them once more with a new fresh set of eyes. Guided by the radiance of the adamant Gas Giants, Astrologian that follow the observations of these bodies share their strength, adamance, and power.

While still focusing on study, they hold the strength of the body at equal importance as the strength of the mind, boasting the necessarily larger weapons needed to fight their way into abandoned strongholds, libraries, and cities, where they might potentially find the information of the past.

“Hundreds of eyes have fallen upon the great Gas Giants that sleep above, and yet they sit, unfettered against their gaze. They stand, absolute, in great reach and of great size, a force - unstoppable.”

Gas Giant Spells

Observation of gas giants lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Compelled Duel, Searing Smite
3rd Branding Smite, Enlarge/Reduce
5th Blinding Smite, Crusader's Mantle
7th Staggering Smite, Stone Shape
9th Banishing Smite, Destructive Wave

Massive Body

Starting at 3rd level, You’ve taken after the great size and power of the ever-stretching, great gas giants. You count as one size larger when determining your carrying capacity and the weight you can push, drag, or lift.

Additionally, You gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons.

Only Atmosphere

Also at 3rd level, your physical form has become somewhat gaseous, allowing you to move with grace and ease. While not unconscious, you may pass through the space of a creature of any size. Traveling through spaces inhabited by other creatures does not count as difficult terrain and when you pass through creatures this way, you do not provoke attacks of opportunity. If you end your turn in another creature's space, you are shunted to the last unoccupied space you occupied.

Colossal Cleave

Starting at 6th level, Star Fragments channel density into your weapon of choice allowing it to cleave through targets. Once per turn when you make a melee attack while within the bright light of a Star Fragment, you may choose an additional target for the attack within your reach, making a single attack roll that contests each creature's AC independently.

Outer Limit

Starting at 14th level, your horizons have expanded past their previous boundaries, your outer limit encompassing all. Your reach increases by 5 ft with all melee weapons.

When you use your Colossal Cleave, you may choose any number of additional targets for the attack within your reach.

Radiant Star

Basking in the glow of starlight, and the divine radiance of the sun, those that seek their warmth and power observe the brightest stars amidst the sky.

Bringing closer still the beauty of starlight to those that do not know it, Radiant Star Astrologian seek to enlighten those that have not yet met with it's glow. Whether it be by choice or by force.

It is undoubtable the powers of the Radiant Star, as the vast size of all can sear paths forward. Those that observe the Radiants Stars of the cosmos first learn acts of control, themselves first, the stars second.

"My burns tell a story. I am persistent, I am careless."

Radiant Star Spells

Observation of Radiant Stars let you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Burning Hands, Hellish Rebuke
3rd Aganazzar's Scorcher, Flaming Sphere
5th Fireball, Flame Arrows
7th Sickening Radiance, Wall of Fire
9th Dawn, Hallow

Fissile Starlight

At 3rd level, you have unveiled mysteries surrounding Star Fragments - gaining knowledge of the vast amounts of energy imprisoned within. When you cast a damaging spell that targets only one creature, you may target a Star Fragment in an attempt to release the energy held inside. On a hit, the Star Fragment splits in twain, spewing forth imbued dormant energy, and exploding into stardust and fire in a 10 foot radius around the Star Fragment, dealing the damage of the triggering spell plus an additional 2d8 radiant damage.

When a Star Fragment explodes, the damage can trigger other Star Fragments to do the same. Creatures may be affected by only one instance of the explosion.

Stargazer

Also at 3rd level, Like the brightest stars on the horizon, all that your eyes rest upon is wreathed in a cosmic light. You gain darkvision out to a range of 150 feet. If you already have darkvision, the range is extended to 150 feet.

Willing creatures in the area of the bright light provided by a Star Fragment also gain this benefit.

Cosmic Flare

At 6th level, the profound illumination of your spells renders those that find themselves at the opposing end cascaded in light. Whenever you deal fire or radiant damage to a creature, you may choose for the creature to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC or be blinded until the end of your next turn.

You may use this feature a number of times equal to your proficiency bonus, gaining uses back on a long rest.

Starforger

At 14th level, the need to observe has given way to another need, to create. You twist and mold your Star Fragments into a far greater form, to serve a far greater purpose, becoming Stars. You can use your action to convert all active Star Fragments into Stars that have the following attributes:

  • Stars Emite bright light for 300 feet, and dim light for another 300 feet
  • When a creature moves or ends their turn within 15 feet of a Star, it takes 4d6 fire damage and 4d6 radiant damage
  • Stars burn energy at an extremely fast rate, and can only hold their form for 1 minute before expiring
  • Creatures cannot be affected by more than one instance of a Star

You may use this feature once, and regain the ability to do so at the end of a long rest

Dark Star

Everything dies, one way or another - none know this better than the observers of dark stars. In the vast emptinesses of the great sky-sea, dark star astrologian look where none other think to - into the ever spanning, ever hungry voids of the night sky, where stars find themselves cannibal, cold. Ever searching for the darkest of secrets, those that follow the teachings of the dark star tend to find themselves searching for information not lost, but hidden. Believing that no information requires censor, all knowledge is meant to complete the same ends: consumption, and control.

"The stars are not infinite, they never have been. It is us who must understand the purpose of their light. Us who are to determine what was there before, and what will be there after."

Dark Star Spells

Observation of dark stars lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Magnify Gravity, Cause Fear
3rd Darkness, Crown of Madness
5th Hunger of Hadar, Pulse Wave
7th Black Tentacles, Compulsion
9th Negative Energy Flood, Temporal Shunt

All-Consuming

At 3rd level, the Star Fragments you call do not originate from the sky profound, but rather the ravenous void that lies beyond; the darkest, deepest reaches of the sky, far from where even the most radiant of light may reach, such that you can call upon this energy at will. When you create a Star Fragment, you can choose for it to not emit light and instead expel a radius of non-magical darkness that can't be lit by non-magical light equal to the bright light that would have been emitted by the Star Fragment. As a bonus action, you can choose a currently active Star Fragment and change whether it emits light or darkness.

Additionally, you can now force unwilling creatures to bear a Star Fragment. To do so, select a target to make a Wisdom saving throw against your Spell Save DC. On failure, that creature bears a Star Fragment.

Hyperdense Matter

At 3rd level, from observations and study into the ceaseless void, you’ve learned of celestial bodies of vast density and size unlike any that are to exist to those who don’t directly seek it. This knowledge is voracious and consumes those that bear your Star Fragments As an Bonus Action, you may target a creature or object bearing a Star Fragment and choose one of the following effects to last as long as the Star Fragment does:

  • Increased Density: The target’s weight doubles, its movement is reduced by 10 feet, and it has advantage on Dexterity and Strength saving throws that would cause it to move or be knocked prone.
  • Raze: At the start of each of its turns the target must succeed on a Strength saving throw against your Spell Save DC or fall prone.
  • Gravitational Origin: Any creature within a 15ft radius of the target must expend 2 feet of movement for every 1 foot it moves while moving away from the target

Nothing Escapes

At 6th level, The voracity of the Star Fragments you call from the deep voids of the skies grows. The seeking emptiness reaches for those who fear it. As an Action, you cause creatures you choose within a 30ft radius of a Star Fragment to make a Strength saving throw against your Spell Save DC as the gravitational field of the Star Fragment surges. On a failure, they are pulled 15 feet towards the center of the Star Fragment; if a target cannot get closer to the center, they instead take 2d10 force damage.

Event Horizon

At 14th level, the Star Fragments you rend from the unending void long for their siblings. As an action you can cause two Star Fragments within 60 feet of one another to bind, erecting a wall of magical darkness between them. The wall is 15 feet high, 5 feet thick. Creatures within 15 feet of the wall must make a Strength saving throw against your Spell Save DC or be pulled 10 feet closer, knocked prone, and their speed becomes 0. As an action the target can remake the save, on a success their movement returns to normal. If the target starts their turn inside the wall, they take 4d10 force damage

Streaking Comet

Ripping across the plane, rending dirt and stone from beneath their feet - Streaking Comet Astrologian seek to catch only but a fleeting glimpse of the comets that may rarely race across the night sky.

Their mind a dagger, and the world beneath their feet a whetstone, their time is spent getting a head start in every wake of life - the first to do many things amidst any of the other Astrologian Observations.

In their time of study of the comets that race above, oftentimes finding themselves not holed up inside of libraries or sanctums, but rather spending their time in the outskirts of cities, plains, and open areas where they may partake in study, hoping only for a sight of speed that could rival theirs.

"A thing isn't beautiful because it lasts"

Streaking Comet Spells

Observation of streaking comets lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Catapult, Expeditious Retreat
3rd Blur, Kinetic Jaunt
5th Asharladon's Stride, Blink
7th Freedom of Movement, Psychic Lance
9th Freedom of the Winds, Swift Quiver

Cosmic Jaunt

At 3rd level, your blazing speed takes after the blindingly fast and elusive comets throughout the skies. When a creature bears a Star Fragment, their movement increases by 10 feet and they have advantage on ability checks against being grappled or restrained.

Additionally, your speed increases by 10 feet at 3rd, 6th, and 14th level.

Escape Velocity

Also at 3rd level, the force you are able to exert into your spells becomes colossal, sending them screeching and reeling through space at extreme speeds. When you cast a spell that has a range of 5 feet or greater, the range is doubled.

Additionally, you do not make ranged spell attacks against creatures who are within 5 feet of you at disadvantage.

FTL

At 6th level, your movement has bested even that of light. While within the bright light of a Star Fragment, you may expend 15 feet of movement to teleport to another space you can see within 60 feet of you that is also within the bright light of a Star Fragment.

Trailing Arcanum

At 14th level, aspects of your Astral Arcanum trail behind you with a cosmic glow. At the end of a long rest, select a number of spells from your Astral Arcanum equal to your proficiency bonus that have a casting time of one action to begin trailing you. While a spell is trailing you,

  • You may move along vertical surfaces and across liquids on your turn without falling during the move
  • The casting time of all trailing spells becomes one bonus action
  • When you cast a trailing spell, you gain movement equal to 10 times the level of the spell cast until the end of your turn, and the spell stops trailing you.

Cloud

Distant and aloof, Cloud Astrologian emphasize their study on variations of the numerous shapes and forms of the clouds in the sky above. Finding themselves comforted by long periods of deep thought, often accented with the very same pillows that dot the sky.

Their spellcasting taking inspiration from large, lumbering forms above, they focus on creating clouds of their own and cushioning their allies from harmful blows.

Fun and free-spirited, Cloud Astrologian stick to no real code, and do simply as the will and whimsy of the winds.

"You see, I search for meanings in the clouds. The funny thing is I can say whatever I want and it works! You see that one over there? Looks like a dragon... no, a goblin!"

Cloud Spells

Observation of clouds lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn an Astrologian spell. The following spells are added to the Astrologian list for you

Astrologian Level Spell
1st Fog Cloud, Create or Destroy Water
3rd Earthbind, Pass without Trace
5th Beacon of Hope, Freedom Of The Waves
7th Control Water, Fabricate
9th Cloudkill, Control Winds

Pareidolia

At 3rd level, you can use your action to manipulate vapor around you into creating clouds in the form of creatures and objects within 10 feet of you. No matter the creation, it weighs 1 pound, must fit within a 10 foot cube and its form must be of some object or creature you have seen. If the clouds take the form of a creature, it has an AC of 5, and 1 Hit Point; It follows your directions to the best of its ability, but cannot attack, speak, or make sound. The clouds dissipate after 1 hour, or when you use this feature again.

Cumulonimbus Cushioning

At 3rd level, your Star Fragments take after the very clouds in the sky, becoming larger, stretching bodies of condensed vapor. If a falling creature lands within the area of bright light emitted by a Star Fragment, they take no falling damage and can choose to land on their feet.

Additionally, when a creature jumps while within the bright light of a Star Fragment, their jump distance is doubled.

Vapor Buffer

At 6th level, you can employ protective vapors in the atmosphere to condense around your allies to nullify potentially harmful strikes. When a creature within 60 feet of you is hit with a melee weapon attack, you may use your reaction to reduce the damage taken by 1d10 + your Intelligence modifier + your Astrologian level.

If you reduce the damage to 0, the vapor repurposes the energy of the strike, bolstering the protected creature. You can expend one Star Fragment to grant the protected creature temporary HP equal to the damage nullified.

Overcast

At 14th level, your study of the skies has clouded and obstructed the inner workings of your mind, making it impossible to influence and detect. You become immune to any effect that would sense your emotions or read your thoughts, divination spells that you choose to be unaffected by, and the charmed condition.
