Astral Mimic Familiar

Background

Astral Mimics are tiny, floating amorphous creatures that can shapeshift into many forms. Because of this, wizards love to keep them as scouts, able to slip in through tiny cracks.

Arcane tricksters love them for their ability to become a key that they've seen before, or failing that, an always-hidden lock pick!

Sometimes, bards will even use them to transform into tiny versions of people, and put on a puppet show!

Regardless of who uses them and why, everyone loves these cute, floating mimics.

Psionic Flight. The Astral Mimic flys by using psionics, similar to how all creatures move within the astral plane. It retains this power on all planes of existence.

Skilled Shapechanger As an action, The Astral Mimic can transform into any small or smaller non-magical item that it has seen (such as a sword, a lockpick, smith tools, or a backpack) or back into its true, amorphous form. Its statistics are the same in each form, and it retains its adorable eyes. Any equipment it is wearing or carrying isn't transformed. It reverts to its true form if it dies.
While transformed into a tool, weapon, or shield, another creature may use or wield it.

False Appearance (Object Form Only). While the mimic remains motionless and keeps its eyes closed, it is indistinguishable from an ordinary object.

Tiny Doppelganger. The Astral Mimic, unlike most mimics, can even take the appearance of a creature it has seen. Its stats do not change, and it remains size tiny. Its eyes remain dopey and cute.
