Otherworldly Patron: The Murmur

There is a voice in your head. Many, many voices. Repeat
the word. The name of the sound. An otherworldly chorus, a discordant cacophony, a ceaseless argument. An unending recitation of forbidden and terrible untruths, over and over and over again. This happens more and more now.

You know better than to listen.

But what if you did? What harm could it do? Just this
once. So safe, and nothing to worry about. Ha ha, funny. Perhaps you'd glean a secret. Gain a nugget of knowledge.
Hear out a small request. Maybe you'd even acquiesce.
Just this once. You're home. You remind us of home.

It's never just the once.

Expanded Spell List

The Murmur lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Murmur Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st dissonant whispers, sleep
2nd augury (no material component), Tasha's mind whip
3rd catnap, spirit guardians (deals psychic damage)
4th confusion, divination
5th modify memory, Rary's telepathic bond

Whisper

At 1st level, you learn the message cantrip, and can cast it with no components. It counts as a warlock cantrip for you, but doesn't count against your number of cantrips known.

Chatter

Starting at 1st level, the voices in your head can draw your eye to details you may have missed, or warn you of potential dangers. When you fail a Wisdom (Perception), Wisdom (Insight) or Intelligence (Investigation) check, or a Dexterity saving throw, you can add your Charisma bonus to the result. At the DM's discretion, you may sometimes have a chance to gain this benefit on a passive check.

Once this feature turns two failures into successes, you cannot use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

At 6th level, the voices will also offer snippets of knowledge you have no way of knowing. You can also use this feature on Intelligence (Arcana, History, Nature or Religion) checks.

Noise

At 6th level you can make it difficult and deeply unpleasant for others to focus their attention on you. As a bonus action you can distort your presence for 1 minute or until you lose concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell). Any creature who targets you with an attack or harmful spell must first make a Wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC. On a failed save, the creature must choose a new target or lose the attack or spell. Creatures immune to psychic damage are unaffected.

Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a short or long rest.

Clamor

Starting at 10th level, should another touch your mind, you can invite them to listen to the horrors within. As a reaction to a creature dealing psychic damage to you, forcing you to make a Wisdom or Intelligence saving throw, or sending you a telepathic message, you can deal psychic damage to that creature equal to your level in this class. If this damage causes a concentration saving throw, the save DC is equal to your warlock spell save DC.

Cacophony

At 14th level, you can finally give voice to the bedlam in your head. As an action you can begin a recursive and nonsensical chant or incantation, which drowns out all other sound within 30 feet and affects creatures other than you which can hear it and understand at least one language.

A creature which start its turn in the area of the chant or enters it on their turn must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw against your warlock spell save DC or be charmed until it succeeds on the save at the start of a subsequent turn or is incapacitated. A charmed creature sees only you, hears only the chant, and takes no actions or reactions and does not move unless compelled by another effect.

A creature which fails the saving throw by 5 or more is infected by the chant and begins repeating it, causing the same effect within 30 feet of itself. It has disadvantage on the saving throw, and automatically fails it if its hit points are equal to or lower than twice your warlock level.

Your chanting lasts until you force yourself to stop as a bonus action or are incapacitated. You cannot speak while chanting, but can use it as a verbal component for your warlock cantrips and spells from your expanded spell list. Once you use this feature, you cannot do so again until you finish a long rest.
