Geologist Artificer

Geologist Artificers are magical researchers. By channeling their magic through various enchanted samples they find on their adventures they are able to peer into the past of the stones. They use the knowledge gathered there to aid themselves and their allies in their everlasting quest for more knowledge.

Tool Proficiency

When you adopt this specialization at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Jeweler's Tools or Mason's Tools(your choice). If you already proficiency in both of these tools, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Geologist Spells

Starting at 3rd level, you always have certain spells prepared after you reach particular levels in this class, as shown in the Geologist Spells table. These spells count as artificer spells for you, but they don't count against the number of artificer spells you prepare.

Geologist Spells
Artificer Level Spell
3rd Earth Tremor, Comprehend Languages
5th Maximilian's Earthen Grasp, Augury
9th Erupting Earth, Tongues
13th Summon Elemental, Divination
17th Hold Monster, Legend Lore

Studied Advice

Beginning at 3rd level, your study of enchanted rocks and minerals has enlightened you to the ways of the world. As a bonus action, you can lend a quick word of advice on how to deal with the current situation to a creature other than yourself within 30 feet of you that can hear you. That creature can add a d4 to the next attack roll or saving throw it makes before the start of your next turn.

Mystic Samples

Also at 3rd level, you start to collect and study enchanted rock and mineral samples. As you level up and adventure you naturally discover more samples. Whenever you gain access to a new sample you can spend 1 hour mystically probing it to look into its past and add its knowledge to your own. You gain access to 2 samples from the list below of your choice. You gain access to an additional sample from this list when you reach 5th and 9th level in this class.

Windstone. The range of your Studied Advice feature is doubled.

Firestone. When you use your Studied Advice feature, you can choose to insult a creature instead of offer advice. If you do the creature gains none of the benefits from your Studied Advice feature and it must make a Wisdom Saving Throw vs you Spell Save DC or take 1d4 psychic damage. At 9th level, the damage from this stone increases to 2d4.

Earthstone. You can choose to have the target of your Studied Advice feature gain temporary hit points equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Waterstone. When you target a creature with your Studied Advice feature it can immediately move up to 5 feet.

Moonstone. When you use your Studied Advice feature you gain a +1 bonus to your AC until the start of your next turn.

Sunstone. You can target yourself with your Studied Advice feature.

Bodystone. Attacks that benefit from your Studied Advice feature deal additional damage equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Soulstone. Intelligence, Wisdom, and Charisma Saving Throws that benefit from your Studied Advice feature gain a bonus equal to your Intelligence modifier.

Research Caster

At 5th level, the knowledge you gain from your stones helps to inform your spellcasting. Whenever you cast a spell that deals damage of the type associated with the sample shown below you can add your Intelligence modifier to the damage of the spell if you have that sample studied.

Sample Damage Type
Windstone Lightning
Firestone Fire
Earthstone Thunder
Waterstone Cold
Moonstone Necrotic
Sunstone Radiant
Bodystone Poison or Acid
Soulstone Psychic

Learn from the Past

At 9th level, your mystical probing into the past of your samples has taught you much. You learn one spell of your choice from any class. The spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Artificer table, or a cantrip. The chosen spell counts as an artificer spell for you.

Whenever you gain a level in this class, you can replace the spell you learned from this feature with another spell of your choice from any class. The new spell must be of a level you can cast.

Additionally, choose two of your skill proficiencies. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses either of the chosen proficiencies.

Expert Geologist

At 15th level, you have mastered the art of studying your samples and using the knowledge gained to aid your allies. The dice granted by your Studied Advice feature increases to a d6.

Additionally, you gain access to all of the samples listed in your Mystic Samples feature, but may only have 6 studied at any given time. At the end of each long rest you may choose 6 stones to be studied. These remain in effect until choose to study a different set of 6 stones.
