Hound Master

Some say dogs are man’s best friend, others see these beasts as mere tools to be used. Hound Master’s utilise their canine companions’ tracking abilities to pursue and hunt their prey. Once a hound has your scent, there is no chance of escape.

Blood Hound

3rd-level Hound Master feature

As an action, you can summon a blood hound to aid you in your hunt. The hound appears in an unoccupied space of your choice that you can see within 30 feet of you. The hound is friendly to you and your companions, obeys your commands, and uses the Blood Hound stat block.

In combat, the hound shares your initiative count, but it takes its turn immediately after yours. It can move and use its reaction on its own, but the only action it takes on its turn is the Dodge action, unless you take a bonus action on your turn to command it to take another action. That action can be one in its stat block or some other action. If you are incapacitated, the hound can take any action of its choice, not just Dodge.

Once you summon the hound, you can’t do so again until you finish a long or short rest. The hound also regains all of its hit points upon completing a long or short rest. The hound remains by your side until; it is reduced to 0 hit points, until you use this feature to summon the hound again, or until you die. Anything the hound was wearing or carrying is left behind when the hound vanishes.

Tag Team

3rd-level Hound Master feature

The hound can exploit a target’s weaknesses when you are unable. Finishing your turn without using your Sneak Attack feature causes the next attack your hound makes to deal additional damage on a hit. Roll the number of Sneak Attack dice for your level, the target takes additional damage equal to the total rolled.

If your hound fails to hit a creature with an attack before the start of your next turn, they lose this bonus damage.

Sic ‘em

9th-level Hound Master feature

The hunt is on. When you hit a creature with an attack during your turn, your hound can use its reaction to move up to its speed towards the creature you hit.

Additionally, if your hound hits a creature with an opportunity attack, their walking speed is halved until the start of their next turn.

Maul

13th-level Hound Master feature

Your hound is even more ferocious. When your hound hits a creature with an attack, it deals an additional 1d6 damage. This bonus increases by 1d6 when you reach 17th level.

Keen Nose

13th-level Hound Master feature

The blood hound is capable of tracking down hidden foes. Using its reaction, which it takes upon hearing a command word from you (no action required), the hound can make a Wisdom (Perception) check with advantage. Any hidden or invisible creatures within 60ft of the hound must make a contested Dexterity (Stealth) check. If the hound succeeds the contest against a creature, you and your hound learn of the creature’s current location.

Additionally, if your hound manages to hit an invisible creature with an attack, they are revealed until the end of your hound’s next turn. Revealed creatures cannot benefit from being invisible.

Canine’s Loyalty

17th-level Hound Master feature

There is no loyalty like that of a dog’s. When you are reduced to 0 hit points, but not outright killed, your hound can sacrifice itself in an attempt to save you. Your hound transfer all of its current hit points to you, killing itself in the process.

You can use this feature once, regaining its use when you finish a long rest.
