Dark Gift of the Immortal Snail

You have been gifted with virtual immortality. However, somewhere out there, there is an immortal snail with super intelligence that always knows where you are and is slowly crawling toward you. If it touches you, you die.

Roll on or choose an option from the Snail Origins table to determine how the snail came to be and why it pursues you. Additionally, you gain the traits that follow.

Snail Origins
d6 Snail Origin
1 The snail was the last person to have this dark gift.
2 Your lover turned into the snail. Do you still love them?
3 The snail is also your deity and/or your Warlock patron.
4 You killed the snail's father. Prepare to die.
5 You're a tax evader and the snail works for the IRS.
6 It's just a regular snail. Or is it...?

Death Resistance. You have advantage on death saving throws and you can't be killed outright.

Immortal Nature. You can hold your breath indefinitely, and you don’t require food, water, or sleep, although you still require rest to reduce exhaustion. You also no longer age.

Unavoidable Demise. An immortal snail always knows your location and is constantly pursuing you at a halved slow pace (see chapter 8 of the Player's Handbook for rules on travel pace). If it touches you, you die instantly. The snail is extremely resourceful and committed to its goal of touching you. If it somehow becomes stuck and is unable to move toward you for 1d6 days, it will find a way to continue its pursuit by practical means, minor teleportation, or luck (determined by the DM). It may also use creative methods to reach you faster, such as hitching a ride on a moving object or cooperating with another creature. See its game statistics in the Immortal Snail stat block.

Note to the DM

This is a Dark Gift, a new type of player option found in Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft. As DM, you take on the role of the immortal snail and you must track its path. You can take a minute to determine its location on a world map at the start and end of each session. Alternatively, you can make its appearances sporadic by using percentile dice or random encounter tables. Make sure you use a consistent method of tracking its location that best suits your campaign from the beginning.
