Dragon's Fruit
Draconic scholars know that the existence of dragons is that of greed and power. But very few know of a treasure that can out weigh a dragon's greed for coin and magic items. That treasure however isn't some priceless work of art or a collection of bardic stories, rather it's something as unsuspecting as a fruit.
On the rare occasion a tree is exposed to a dragon's presence and magic it may be transformed into a Dragon's Fruit tree. These trees are extremely delicate and require constant maintenance to bear their highly sought after fruit. This fruit is unlike any other however, due to the power of a dragon alter both it's tree of birth and it's very seed a Dragon's Fruit gains some semblance of sapience that makes it far more rare and valuable than that of a normal fruit.
Dragon's Possession. Due to the creation of a Dragon's Fruit being nigh impossible to happen on it's own, many dragons who know of the the fruit make an effort to cultivate it. Many dragons who cultivate a Dragon's Fruit see it as a grand accomplishment and addition to their horde due to it being one of the only things dragons cannot get through sheer force. The treatment of a Dragon's Fruit depends on their creator dragon. Those of the metallic variety would treat it as a pet of sorts, while those of the chromatic variety would treat it as a possession to be put in a glass case to be displayed.
Shrouded Creation. The process of creating and sustaining a Dragon's Fruit tree is a well guarded secret amongst dragons. Only a few of the older dragons of any world might know how to cultivate such relics, and to give up this secret is to give up the priceless nature of the fruit.
Fickle Beginnings. The creation of a Dragon's Fruit is extremely harsh on that of it's birth tree. As a consequence of this whenever a Dragon's Fruit is born the tree from which it was born dies, leaving it's life essence for the Dragon's Fruit to consume.
Draconic Origin. A Dragon's Fruit can get all of it's energy from being in the presence of a dragon. Should a Dragon's Fruit find itself away from it's creator dragon it can survive as long as it has access to sunlight, water, and air.
Dragon's Fruit Familiar
Should an adventuring party come across a neglected Dragon's Fruit who is scornful of it's creator dragon (typically those once possessed by a chromatic dragon) it may be willing pact under the Find Familiar spell at the DM's discretion. Note: A Dragon's Fruit loses it's Saturated Power ability when turned into a familiar.
