Arnalith History

The First Empire

Not much is known as to how the continent of Arnalith was created. Some say the gods brought sentient beings to the world so they had something to interact with other than themselves. Others say they were put here to judge the gods and what they had created.

At first many of the races struggled to find a foothold and were shunned by others. War raged for many years between every tribe of race or culture. The first king Olther, an old elven elder, brought the more civilized races together under what was called The First Empire. Centered around the cliffside city of Eranath, he brought peace among these races and built a wall stretching from the Dufair Sea to the Oltho Mounts to stop the raiding of the orcs, goblins, and other wild creatures inhabiting the Rolling Wilds.

For hundreds of years he reigned and kept a well maintained peace among the people of Arnalith. As the time passed on the empire thrived and pushed many of the wilder creatures into the more wilder areas of the world. After Olther’s passing, the reign of The First Empire came to an end and many people attempted to overtake the throne. Wars broke out all over the continent, either politically or physically. The elven bloodline thought they were the rightful rulers, while the human and half elf people felt that it was time for a different kind of rule.

The Long Red and New Dawn

For a few hundred years the wars between the higher elven blood and the human and mixed races raged on across the continent; this period was known as The Long Red. Leaving broken families, orphans, and many ruins. These wars almost crippled the civilized races letting the wilder creatures start to take hold again. They eventually came together in the Meeting of the New Dawn at the Temple of Alder in Eranath. This agreement let each city create its own rule with a council to oversee any major happenings around the continent. A time of peace and growth grew out of this new formed openness allowing for prosperity and healing.

The Temple of the Primes and the Ernathian Empire

Different deities had come and gone among the people of Arnalith, however a few became the major powers among them. The Temple of the Primes was started to bring together the three prime deities under one religion, allowing only the worship of them. These gods were Alder, Mehra, and Ethris. With Eranath being a thriving major city and the head of major powers in the realm, they began their spread of teachings and it quickly caught on among the noble houses. The Rolaine family, the wealthiest and most powerful family in Eranath, spent many resources and wealth to help this newfound religion grow to become a major power. Sophia Rolaine, the head of House Rolaine, decided that a new nation was to be created under the rule of her house and the Temple of the Primes. She brought the noble lords from each of the major cities across the western part of the continent together to agree to this new empire. This was the birth of the Ernathian Empire.

The Great Split and the Alliance of Gwyllt

As the Ernathian Empire spread its teaching with the Temple of the Primes, many people among the continent did not agree with this religious suppression. Groups of people left the west so they could worship the gods they wished and groups flocked to the west as they embraced this new religion. The Ernathian Empire was pressing hard to spread its teaching and began to use force to do so. The major town of Lenfeld in the northeast had become a place of free worship far from the reach of the empire. Many of the nobles and families that did not agree with them decided to stand up and try to fight against this oppression. This was the birth of the Alliance of Gwyllt. Within this new alliance The Council of Logum was created to help facilitate organization in the fight against the Ernathian Empire and brought together the major cities around the Rolling Wilds together to act as a coalition against them.

First Years of War

For twenty five years the war between the Ernathian Empire and the Alliance of Gwyllt has raged on. Few major battles have been fought however the games of espionage and sedition have been rampant in every major city between both warring parties. One major battle in the Deilur Fields five years ago almost destroyed more than half of the armies of both powers. After the massive bloodshed they agreed that they did not want a repeat of The Long Red and decided a truce was in order. So far nothing major has happened since, although in the last few months tensions have been rising and know one is sure how long this truce will actually last.
