Race: Firenewts

The Firenewts are a race of humanoid lizards with deep connections with the essences of fire. Often making their homes in places of extreme heat with large pools of water for them to lay their eggs.

Firenewt Traits

Your Firenewt character has the following traits.

Ability Score Increases. Your Dexterity score increases by 2 and your Constitution score increases by 1.

Size. Your size is Small.

Speed. You have a base walking speed of 30 feet.

Amphibious. You have a swimming speed of 25 feet & you can breath both air and water.

Fire Immunity. You are immune to Fire damage.

Spit Fire. You can as an Action spit fire at a target within 10ft of you. The target must make a Dexterity saving throw or take 2d8 Fire damage on a failure, or half as much on a successful one. The damage for this feature increases to 3d8 at 6th level, 4d8 at 11th level, and 5d8 at 16th level. The DC for this trait is equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus.

After you use this feature, you can’t use it again until you complete a short or long rest.

Language. You can read, speak, and write in Common, Draconic, and Ignan.

Optional Features

These features are optional.

Spew Flame

(Replaces Spit Fire)

You have a pool of d8s equal to your proficiency bonus. As an Action, choose an amount of dice to spend. Each creature in a 5ft x the total amount of dice spent line must make a Dexterity saving throw (DC equal to 8 + your Constitution modifier + your proficiency bonus). On a failure, the targets take the spent dice in Fire damage, or half as much on a success.

Your pool recharges 1 die at the end of each of your turns.
