Granguard War Drum

Armor (shield), rare (requires attunement)

The enchanted leather war drum is meant to be carried as a shield in one hand. While holding this shield, you have a +1 bonus to AC. This bonus is in addition to the shield's normal bonus to AC. Wielding a shield increases your Armor Class by 2. You can benefit from only one shield at a time.

  • If an attack roll exactly matches your AC you take half damage from the attack.
  • Reverberating Retribution. If a creature's melee attack roll misses your AC by 2 or less, the shield absorbs the energy of the impact and you can immediately use your reaction to cast the Thunderwave spell (DC = 12 + your proficiency bonus). Creatures of your choice are immune to this effect and are instead bolstered by the thunderous boom. The bolstered creatures can add 1d4 to their attack and damage rolls until the end of your next turn.

Granguard Beater

Weapon (club), Rare

You have a +1 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this magic weapon.

Concus. When you roll a 20 on an attack roll made with this weapon, the target must succeed on a Wisdom saving throw (DC = 12 + your proficiency bonus) or be affected by the Slow spell for the next one minute. You do not need to concentrate on this spell. A creature affected by this spell makes another Wisdom saving throw at the end of each of its turns. On a successful save, the effect ends for it.

Drum and Beater Interaction

If you are a Bard, you gain a +1 bonus to spell attack rolls and to the saving throw DCs of your bard spells while holding this drum.

Beat the Drums of War. As an action on your turn you can begin to strike the Beater on the Drum to rally your allies. For the next 1 minute you can continue to beat the drum (no action required). Creatures of your choice, who can hear the drum, can add your Charisma bonus to Initiative Rolls and to Saving Throws to avoid being Frightened.

In addition, if you use this feature while undertaking a Forced March you can help to push creatures beyond their limits. Until the march ends, creatures of your choice, who can hear the drum, can add your Charisma bonus to Constitution Saving Throws to avoid becoming Exhausted.

Once you use this feature you can’t use it again until after you complete a long rest.

Bard - College of Valor Optional Features

Fighting Style

At 3rd level, you adopt a particular style of fighting as your specialty. Choose one of the following options. You can't take a Fighting Style option more than once, even if you later get to choose again.

  • Defense. While you are wearing armor, you gain a +1 bonus to AC..
  • Protection. When a creature you can see attacks a target other than you that is within 5 feet of you, you can use your reaction to impose disadvantage on the attack roll. You must be wielding a shield.

Combat Inspiration

Also at 3rd level, you learn to inspire others in battle. You can use only one Combat Inspiration option per turn.

  • Commander’s Strike. When you take the Attack action on your turn, you can forgo one of your attacks and use a bonus action to direct one of your companions to strike. When you do so, choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you and expend one Bardic Inspiration die. That creature can immediately use its reaction to make one weapon attack, adding the Bardic Inspiration die to the attack’s damage roll.
  • Maneuvering Attack. When you hit a creature with a weapon attack, you can expend one Bardic Inspiration die to maneuver one of your comrades into a more advantageous position. You add the Bardic Inspiration die to the attack’s damage roll, and you choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you. That creature can use its reaction to move up to half its speed without provoking opportunity attacks from the target of your attack.
  • Rally. On your turn, you can use a bonus action and expend one Bardic Inspiration die to bolster the resolve of one of your companions. When you do so, choose a friendly creature who can see or hear you. That creature gains temporary hit points equal to the Bardic Inspiration die roll + your Charisma modifier.
