Toons
Wild, dramatic, and animated, these living cartoons are so lawless that they refuse even to abide by the laws of physics and biology. Instead, they interact with the world according to a series of jocular rules that seem written almost exclusively for comic effect. Even when viewed from all angles, they seem to be drawn as a two-dimensional sketch - and even when their body is hurled directly through a wall, they seem to bounce back unharmed. The only thing more absurd than a toon's very existence is its wild, wacky, outlandish sense of humour.
It's impossible to say how life was first breathed into these creatures of ink and imagination. Well, I mean, obviously it was a bard's fault somehow, but nobody knows the specifics. Regardless, these living depictions of elves, humans, creatures, and monsters are few and far between - but many of them flourish as heroes, endlessly drawn to adventure by their passionate, inquisitive mischievousness.
The body of a toon is absurdly malleable, and incredibly expressive - even if your toon character doesn't intend it. This might manifest in the following ways:
- When you see a sight you find particularly beautiful, your heart literally pulsates out of your chest.
- When you’re frightened, you instinctively leap almost 10 feet into the air.
- When you’re surprised, your jaw literally drops to the floor.
Toon Lineage
- Ability Scores: Choose one of: (a) Choose any +2; choose any other +1 (b) Choose any +1; choose any other +1; choose any other +1
- Creature Type: Humanoid
- Size: Small/Medium
- Speed: 30 ft.
Ancestral Legacy. If you replace a race with this lineage, you can keep the following elements of that race: any skill proficiencies you gained from it and any climbing, flying, or swimming speed you gained from it.
If you don't keep any of those elements or you choose this lineage at character creation, you gain proficiency in two skills of your choice.
Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
Suspended Animation. You are able to walk on air as if it is a flat surface. You can keep doing so only if you are completely unaware of the fact you’re in midair - the effect ends immediately if you look down. At the end of your turn, if you are walking on air, you automatically become aware if you haven’t already.
Hammerspace. You have access to an extradimensional space located behind your back. The space is accessible only to you, and you can use it to store objects of large size or smaller. The maximum number of objects you can store in this way is equal to your proficiency bonus. While in this space, the objects weigh nothing, and you can withdraw them from the space as a bonus action.
Fourth Wall Break. When you collide with a solid object or surface that isn’t being worn or carried, if the object or surface has fewer hit points than thrice your proficiency bonus, you can use your reaction to break right through it, leaving a perforation behind that is precisely the shape of your silhouette.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
Sketch Comedy. As an action, you can touch a surface on which you have painted a hole or doorway to create an extradimensional space 10 feet deep with an opening matching the drawing. The space lasts for 1 minute, and matches the painting’s appearance.
While you’re inside the space, you can be heard and seen on the surface of the hole and you can interact with whatever objects you drew inside the hole as if they are real, but nothing can enter or exit the space except you (and anything you wear or carry). You can drag a hole created in this way by pulling on it.
Once you use this feature, you can't use it again until you finish a long rest.
