Soulbound Spellbook

Racial Traits

Your character gains the following traits.

Soulbound Construct. You are considered both a Construct and a Humanoid. Your soul can be nourished by healing spells, and your pages are able to absorb liquids such as potions.

Ability Score Increase. Your Intelligence score increases by 2 and your Dexterity increases by 1.

Alignment. Spellbooks are created for a variety of purposes and by a variety of masters, they can be of any alignment but are usually neutral.

Age. A typical spellbook is between two and thirty years old. The maximum lifespan of a spellbook is unknown but many have lived past a millennium.

Size. You can be anywhere from six inches to a foot and a half tall. Your size is Tiny.

Speed. Your base walking speed is 5ft.

Flight. Your fly speed is 30ft and you can magically hover up to 10ft above the ground. You are immune to the prone condition.

Dark Vision. Your arcane senses provide you with superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Constructed Body. You do not require air, food, drink, or sleep. You enter a semiconscious restful state for 4 hours a day. While resting, you can dream after a fashion; such dreams are reflexive mental exercises inherent to your consciousness. After resting in this way, you gain the same benefit that a human does from experiencing 8 hours of sleep.

Hardback Binding. You gain the following traits:

• Your AC is equal to 13 + your Dexterity modifier.

• You are unable to wear armor fitted for humanoids.

• You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and resistance to poison damage.

• You are immune to disease.

• You have vulnerability to fire damage.

Natural Spellcaster. You are considered as both an Arcane Focus and Spellbook for yourself and anyone holding you. You have a voice and can perform Verbal components, and you can manipulate your pages to perform somatic components.

No Hands. You are unable to wield weapons or wear shields, nor can you use items that require manipulation.

You know the Mage Hand cantrip and can make it's spectral hand invisible, Intelligence is your spellcasting ability for this spell. While this spell is active, you may use items that only require a single hand.

Slam. You are proficient with your unarmed strikes, which deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage on a hit. You may use your Dexterity instead of Strength for this attack.


False Appearance. While motionless, you appear indistinguishable from a regular spellbook. You must spend one minute motionless before this ability takes effect. You must maintain concentration during that time, as if you were casting a spell.

Antimagic Susceptibility. While in the area of an antimagic field, you are Blinded and your fly speed is reduced to 0.

Knowledgeable. You are proficient in the Arcana skill.

Languages. You can speak, read, and write Common and one other language of your choice.
