### Artificer Pack The Artificer needs a backpack even more than the rogue does. There are so many things to build that will require raw materials, and who has time to go shopping when your out in a dungeon or the deep, dark forest. The artificer pack has the basics that all good adventurers require, along with odds and ends for all the tinkering they will want to do. As always, good equipment costs a pretty, so an artificer needs to be ready to shell out some serious gold. |Item|Cost|Weight| |:-|:-:|:-:| |Backpack|2 gp|5 lb.| |Bag of 1000 ball bearings|1 gp|2 lb.| |Caltrop, 20|1 gp.|2 lb.| |Journeybread|10 gp|0.5 lb.| |Mirror, small|5 gp|0.5 lb.| |Oil, Flask|1 sp|1 lb.| |Parchment|1 sp| - | |Scroll Case|1 gp|1 lb.| |Thieves tools|25 gp|6 lb.| |Vial|1 gp| - | |Waterskin|2 sp|5 lb. They can vary in size and shape, but all standard backpacks hold one cubic foot and up to 30 lb. ***Bag of 1000 ball bearings*** A small sack filled with 1/4 inch ball bearings. Per the PHB (pg 151) as an action, you can spill these tiny metal balls from their pouch to cover a level, square area that is 10 feet on a side. A creature moving across the covered area must succeed on a DC 10 Dexterity saving throw or fall prone. A creature moving through the area at half speed doesn't need to make the save. ***Caltrops*** An area denial weapon, the caltrop is made up of two or more sharp nails or spines arranged in such a manner that one of them always points upward from a stable base (for example, a tetrahedron). ***Journeybread*** A specially designed biscuit that fills the stomach and provides all necessary nutrients with only a few small bites, so you can carry food for a long journey without weighing yourself down. The artificer pack includes 2 pieces of journeybread. ***Mirror*** A mirror is a flat, small item with a reflective surface (usually glass) on one side. ***Oil, Flask*** A clay container that can hold up to 1 pint of oil. the artificer can splash the oil in this flask onto a creature within 5 feet of the artificer or throw it up to 20 feet, shattering it on impact. Make a ranged attack against a target creature or object, treating the oil as an improvised weapon. On a hit, the target is covered in oil. If the target takes any fire damage before the oil dries (after 1 minute), the target takes an additional 5 fire damage from the burning oil. The artificer can also pour a flask of oil on the ground to cover a 5-foot-square area, provided that the surface is level. If lit, the oil burns for 2 rounds and deals 5 fire damage to any creature that enters the area or ends its turn in the area. A creature can take this damage only once per turn. ***Parchment*** A stiff, flat, thin material made from the prepared skin of an animal and used as a durable writing surface. ***Scroll Case*** A cylindrical leather case can hold up to ten rolled-up sheets of paper or five rolled-up sheets of parchment. ***Thieves' Tools*** This set of tools includes a small file, a set of lock picks, a small mirror mounted on a metal handle, a set of narrow-bladed scissors, and a pair of pliers. Proficiency with these tools lets you add your proficiency bonus to any ability checks you make to disarm traps or open locks. ***Vial*** A glass glass container used to hold liquid. ***Waterskin*** A container that is made from the bladder of a cow or goat, it can hold up to 4 pints of liquid. ***Whetstone*** A small flat stone used to sharpen edged tools or knives.
