College of Shamanism

Bard Colleges

At 3rd level, a bard gains the Bard College feature. The following college can be added to your list of options.

College of Shamanism

The College of Shamanism is a path of spiritual awareness and connection to the Spirit World. It is accompanied with a Spiritual Guide, Incorporeal Boons, and Spirit World travel.

Bonus Proficiencies

When you join the College of Shamanism at 3rd level, you gain proficiency with Medium Armor and shields.

Nature Magic

Also at 3rd level, your connection to Nature allows you to learn spells normally associated with the druid class. When your Spellcasting feature lets you learn a cantrip or spell, you can choose the new spell from the druid spell list as well as the bard spell list. You must otherwise obey all the restrictions for selecting the spell, and it becomes a bard spell for you.

In addition, choose a totem to draw your nature magic from, bear, crow, eagle, fox, or wolf. You learn an additional spell based on that totem, as shown below. It is a bard spell for you, but it doesn't count against your number of bard spells known. You can later replace this totem during a long rest. Replacing the totem includes changing the known spell, in accordance with the following table.

Totem Spell
Bear thunderwave
Crow faerie fire
Eagle cure wounds
Fox longstride
Wolf goodberries

Spiritual Guide

Additionally at 3rd level, as you connect further with the Spirit World, you are bestowed a spirit guide to help you progress further. The spirit guide takes on the incorporeal form of your totem. Starting when you choose this college at 3rd level, your Spirit Guide appears by your side. The Spirit Guide is the embodiment of the Spirit World for you. It cannot be seen by anyone else by non-magical means, but it can see and hear others as you would. The Spirit guide communicates and interacts with the shaman as a conscious being. The spirit guide grants the shaman advantage to initiative rolls, can’t be surprised while conscious, and other creatures don't gain advantage on attack rolls against you as a result of being hidden from you. This ability uses your bardic inspirations to activate for 1 minute. You add the Summon Bestial Spirit spell to your spellbook if it is not there already.

Ghost Touch

At 6th level, so long as you remain holding it, any melee weapon you touch is classified as a magic weapon when used to attack creatures of an incorporeal nature. Your connection to the afterlife also allows you to contact spirits for assistance. You know the spirit guardians spell.

Spirit Journey

When a College of Shamanism Bard reaches 14th level, they learn how to vanish physically into the Spirit World. As an Action, your shaman can expend an inspiration die to become incorporeal and move through other creatures and objects as if they were difficult terrain. You take 5 (1d10) force damage if you end your turn inside an object. While incorporeal, you do not invoke attacks of opportunity.

Outside of combat, the shaman can spend time in meditation to commune directly with other spirits in the Spirit World to attempt to receive information they desire. The shaman can ask three questions that can be answered with a yes or no. While in meditation, the shaman’s soul is in the Spirit World, and cannot communicate with others in the Natural world.
