Even More Owlbears
This section contains statistics for various owlbears. Individual lore for each owlbear is written below. The stat blocks are organized alphabetically by creature name.
The following owlbears are described:
Creature Name | Size/Type | CR |
---|---|---|
Adolescent Owlbear | Medium monstrosity | 1 |
Siege Owlbear | Large monstrosity | 10 |
Undead Owlbear | Large undead | 4 |
Adolescent Owlbear
After an owlbear cub separates from their parents anywhere between one and a half to two years old, they grow rapidly into an adolescent owlbear. An adolescent owlbear loses much of their younger features, instead growing leaner and stronger with thicker front legs and strong chest areas. Their claws and beak sharpen, giving them a similar strength to their adult form.
An adolescent owlbear reaches sexual maturity between 4 and 5 years, and will become fully grown anywhere from 8 to 10 years old. During this time, an adolescent owlbear will acquire territory and act closer to the ferocity of their adult counterparts.
Variant: Polar Owlbear
The adolescent owlbear, siege owlbear, and undead owlbear can be easily converted into a polar variant. For the variant, each owlbear gains cold resistance and their Constitution score increases by 2.

Siege Owlbear
Owlbears come in all shapes and sizes. The biggest that factions have managed to tame are often outfitted with strong plate armour with mounts for deadly weapons. Unlike traditional siege weapons, an owlbear is able to navigate the difficult terrain of enemy territory. If it comes down to it, a siege owlbear can lose the cannon and unleash the devastating war beast on unsuspecting enemies.
The only major army in Sanctum that uses siege owlbears is the Cerulea military, known as the Azure Legion. They are renowned for their army of various war beasts, such as griffons and remorhaz. The Azure Legion needs these beasts to stand up against the might of Cerise, their rival nation.
Trained For War. An owlbear cub is raised from birth, trained, and nutured by a single individual. This creates a bond between the owlbear and that individual, allowing the normally hostile monstrosity to be controlled and directed. Each siege owlbear undergoes the same training as war owlbears, gaining an increased strength and resilience to the conditions on the battlefield.
Mounted Siege Weapon. The siege owlbear has a powerful weapon mounted onto its back. Depending on the nation or faction that the owlbear has been outfitted at, this weapon could be a catapult, a trebuchet, or another similar weapon. In Aetheria, the Azure Legion outfits their siege owlbears with an aetherite cannon, giving them a powerful but costly magical shot.
If another weapon is used, such as a balista or the aetherite cannon, the weapons damage dice and the damage type can be adjusted to match the new weapon.
Undead Owlbear
Necromancers have experimented with reanimating various creatures. The owlbear is one of these experiments, having been brought to life through powerful magic. An undead owlbear's body has been decayed through this process, looking visibly damaged. Undead owlbear are rare, typically only being reanimated by a lich or a similarly powerful necromancer who will then use them to guard their base or a valuable asset.
Undead owlbears are an intimidating sight even for seasoned adventurers. They sport the same powerful attacks as their living variant, but with an unrelenting resilience.
