Bard: College of the Wild

Traveling vagabonds spend a lot of time in the wilderness. With many of them wandering alone, some turn to the wilds to comfort them. The bards saw this as an opportunity, establishing the College of the Wild for all those who wished to express there love for nature in songs and tales.

Bard's who join the College of the Wild feel a kinship to the natural world and spend their time in the wild, and are often more comfortable with nature than they are with people.

College of the Wild Features
Bard Level Feature
3rd Nature's Envoy, Wild Companion
6th Bestial Speak
14th Call of the Wild

Nature's Envoy

When you choose this college at 3rd level, you gain proficiency in Animal Handling and your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make with it. If you already have this proficiency, you can instead choose one Wisdom or Charisma skill and gain proficiency in that instead.

In addition, you can use your Charisma modifier in place of your Wisdom modifier when you make an Animal Handling skill check.

Furthermore, you can use a druidic focus as a spellcasting focus for your bard spells.

Wild Companion

At 3rd level, you can call upon the wilds to lend you aid. You learn the find familiar spell. It is a bard spell for you, but it doesn't count against your number of bard spells known. When you cast it as a ritual, you can do so without expending material components.

Art: Ed Marinas

When you cast find familiar, you can create any beast of CR 1/8 or lower, instead of one of the listed options. When you reach 6th level, you can create a beast of CR 1/4 or lower. At 14th level, you can create a beast of CR 1 or lower. No matter what option you pick, the creature type of your familiar is beast.

When you use a bonus action to grant a Bardic Inspiration die to a creature, you can instead choose a creature within 30 feet of your familiar that can hear your familiar.

Bestial Speak

Beginning at 6th level, you gain the ability to comprehend and verbally communicate with beasts. The knowledge and awareness of many beasts is limited by their intelligence, but at minimum, beasts can give you information about nearby locations and monsters, including whatever they can perceive or have perceived within the past day.

In addition, you can communicate telepathically with your familiar up to 1 mile away. At 14th level, this communication extends over any distance, though it can’t extend to other planes of existence.

Call of the Wild

Once you reach 14th level, your familiar's call rallies your allies. When a creature with your Bardic Inspiration die makes an ability check, attack roll, or saving throw while within 30 feet of one of your familiars, your familiar can use its reaction to allow the creature to roll a d6 and use it instead of expending the Bardic Inspiration die.

Also, you can quickly change the form your familiar takes. While you have an active familiar, the casting time of find familiar becomes 1 minute. When find familiar is cast this way, it doesn't use a spell slot or material components.
