Avatar of the Four Elements (original version)

Prerequisite: The monk class (Way of the Element Bender), no other creature in the universe in possesion of this feat.

You are the Avatar, master of all four elements and bringer of balance to the world. Choose a secondary, tertiary and quaternary element other than the element you first chose when you gained the Bending Arts feature. You gain the following features when you reach certain levels in the monk class:

  • 4th level. You can use the abilities from your secondary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features.
  • 8th level. You can use the abilities from your tertiary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features, and from your secondary element on the Wisdom of the Elements feature.
  • 12th level. You can use the abilities from your quaternary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features, from your tertiary element on the Wisdom of the Elements feature, and from your secondary element on the Ki-Empowered Bending feature.

Once per long rest, as a free action you can enter your Avatar State, which lasts for 1 minute. While in the Avatar State, you have access to the abilities of every element on any feature you know from your subclass.
Additionally, the ki point cost of any ability from your subclass is reduced by 1. Your Avatar State ends early if you fall unconscious, and when it ends, you gain one point of exhaustion.

Too much power? On my feat? It's more likely than you think!

The idea is that, as the Avatar, you can bend the four elements but have different affinities with each one, in a kind of hierarchical way, so that as you gain levels as a monk, you begin training a second element, then a third and finally a fourth.

When you enter the Avatar State, you harness the power and knowledge of the previous Avatars, which allows you to wield at full power any element, plus grants you extra potency in the form of a ki point cost reduction, as a tip (which basically allows you to make three bending attacks for free each turn at 4th level, for starters).

I fully realize that the feat is overpowered, but that is the point of being the Avatar. I actually think not being the Avatar can be just as interesting, if not more. It's up to your DM if they allows you to be the Avatar, and if they do, you could even suggest them to let you take this feat at first level as a Variant Human or even just as an added variant subclass feature (not recommended for the more powerful tiered feat).

Your Avatar State ends early if you fall unconscious, and when it ends, you gain a number of points of exhaustion depending on your monk level: three at 4th level, two at 8th level, one at 12th level, and finally at 16th level you gain no points of exhaustion.

Avatar of the Four Elements (tiered version)

Prerequisite: The monk class (Way of the Element Bender), no other creature in the universe in possesion of this feat.

Increase your Dexterity or Wisdom score by 1, to a maximum of 20. You can take this feat multiple times, and each time you do you unlock the next tier of this feat.

You are the Avatar, master of all four elements and bringer of balance to the world. Choose a secondary, tertiary and quaternary element other than the element you first chose when you gained the Bending Arts feature.

  • Tier 1. You can use the abilities from your secondary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features. You can enter the Avatar State once between long rests.
  • Tier 2. You can use the abilities from your tertiary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features, and from your secondary element on the Wisdom of the Elements feature. You can enter the Avatar State twice between long rests, and while in the Avatar State, the ki point cost of any ability from your subclass is reduced by 1.
  • Tier 3. You can use the abilities from your quaternary element on the Bending Arts and Shape of the Elements features, from your tertiary element on the Wisdom of the Elements feature, and from your secondary element on the Ki-Empowered Bending feature. You can enter the Avatar State three times between long rests, and you remove any points of exhaustion gained this way when you finish a short or long rest.
  • Tier 4. You can use the abilities from your quaternary element on the Wisdom of the Elements feature, and from your tertiary and quaternary element on the Ki-Empowered Bending feature. When you roll initiative and have no uses left from your Avatar State, you regain one use.

Avatar State. As a free action on your turn, you can enter your Avatar State, which lasts for 1 minute. While in the Avatar State, you have access to the abilities of every element on any feature you know from your subclass. Your Avatar State ends early if you fall unconscious, and when it ends, you gain one point of exhaustion.
