The Hexblade

You have made your pact with the mysterious entities from the Shadowfell – forces of darkness and despair. Mortals who intentionally or accidentally stumble upon a portal to the shadowfell often end up getting corrupted and turned into hexblades, fell warriors carrying their patron's inscrutable objectives.

Entities that create hexblades include the Raven queen, known to have first forged weapons from fell magic; Night hags of incredible power, rumored to hide in the lower planes; Forbidden weapons of yore, seeking worthy disciples to find and break their seals. Many hexblade warlocks create weapons that emulate those formed in the Shadowfell. Others forgo such arms, content to weave the dark magic of that plane into their spellcasting.

Expanded Spell List

The Hexblade lets you choose from an expanded list of spells when you learn a warlock spell. The following spells are added to the warlock spell list for you.

Hexblade Expanded Spells
Spell Level Spells
1st shield, wrathful smite
2nd blur, spiritual weapon
3rd bestow curse, elemental weapon
4th find greater steed, stoneskin
5th cone of cold, skill empowerment
8th Illusory dragon

Hex warrior

At 1st level, you acquire the training necessary to effectively arm yourself for battle. You gain proficiency with medium armor, shields, and martial weapons. You can use a weapon as a spellcasting focus for warlock spells you cast.

In addition, when a spell requires you to make a ranged spell attack, you can channel the magic through a weapon you are holding. Instead of a ranged spell attack, you can make a melee spell attack against a target within 5ft of you.

Shadow magic

At 1st level, your spells are powered from the undying magic of the shadow weave. When you cast a warlock spell, the duration of the spell increases as per the undying magic table.

Undying magic
Spell Duration Duration increased to
1 minute 10 minutes
10 minutes 1 hour
1 hour Until the end of your
next short or long rest
8 hours Until the end of your next long rest

Twilight Shield

At 6th level, you can use your shadow to intercept incoming harm. As a reaction to taking damage, you can sacrifice your shadow to gain resistance to the damage.

You can use this feature once, and regain expended uses when you cast a spell by expending a warlock spell slot, and you don't cast a shadow while you don't have a use of this feature.

Shadow Acolyte

At 10th level, your magic is strengthened through sacrifices. When you reduce a hostile creature to 0 hit points, the next spell you cast before the end of your next turn is cast at one level higher than the level of the spell slot expended.

Twilight dance

At 14th level, your connection to the shadow fell deepens, and your shadow always seems alive. When you use twilight shield, you instead gain immunity to the triggering damage.

In addition, you gain an additional way to use twilight shield. When you make an ability check or saving throw, you can expend a use of twilight shield to reroll it.
