Exiled Fiend
Race Details
Whether their parents were both fiends, or only one of them, an exiled fiend is an academic term that refers to a creature of direct fiendish lineage that for whatever reason finds themselves leaving their home plane, given role, duty, etc. Usually as a consequence of this parting with their purpose they find themselves weakened in many ways.
Exiled Fiend Traits
While exiled fiends share certain traits with their counterparts, they tend to manifest less intensely due to being cut off from their power.
Ability Score Increase
Your Charisma score increases by 2. In addition, one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Age
The life expectancy of a fiend is unknown, they have not been observed to die of old age. However, one unique feature of theirs is that their true form can sometimes change.
Alignment
Fiends are assumed to be evil by the races of the prime material. The reality is many are forced into self-interest or pragmatism by circumstance and upbringing. Others are just born to spread corruption. Good ones either choose exile at a young age or end up suffering worse fates.
Size
Exiled fiends are about the same size and build as humans. Your size is Medium.
Speed
Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Optionally: Wings and flight
Consult with your DM to agree on flight. Here are some suggestions:
- Flight speed of 30 feet while not wearing medium or heavy armour.
Or
- Your wings grow strong with you: Weak wings that allow gliding at 6th level. Full flight at 12th level.
Darkvision
Thanks to your fiendish heritage, you have superior vision in dark and dim conditions. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can’t discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.
Fiendish Resistance
You can choose one, based on your heritage:
- You have advantage on saving throws against poison, and you have resistance against poison damage.
- You have resistance against fire damage and don't suffer the effects of extreme heat.
- You have resistance against cold damage and don't suffer the effects of extreme cold.
Fiendish Legacy
You may choose one of several fiendish traits:
- Fiendish Sight: You gain proficiency in Perception. Additionally, your darkvision increases to 120 feet and it is not impeded by magical darkness.
- Fiendish Blessing: While you are not wearing any armor or shield, your Armor Class equals 10 + your Dexterity modifier + your Charisma modifier, like a Cambion, but only up to an AC of 18.
- Magic resistance: Such as with the likes of Rakshasa, Erinyes or Arcanaloths, you gain advantage on saving throws against spells and other magical effects.
- Shapeshifter: You gain the Shapechanger trait & Shapeshifter Instincts (gain proficiency with 2 of the following skills: Deception, Persuasion, Insight, Intimidation)
Shapechanger
As an action, you can change your appearance and your voice. You determine the specifics of the changes, including your coloration, hair length, and sex. You can also adjust your height and weight, as long as your size is always Small or Medium. You can make yourself appear as a member of another race, though none of your game statistics change. You can’t duplicate the appearance of a creature you’ve never seen. Your clothing and equipment aren’t changed by this trait.
You stay in the new form until you use an action to revert to your true form or until you die.
While shapechanged, you count as a humanoid as well as a fiend.
Languages
You can speak, read, and write Common, and your choice between Infernal or Abyssal.
