# Arcane Tradition: Universalist ## General Mages Universalist wizards are those who focus on breadth instead of depth during their magical studies. What they my lack in pure power or specific skill they make up for in being well rounded spell casters. ## Subclass Features Universalist gain new features at second, sixth, tenth and fourteenth level. - 2nd: Balanced Scribing, General Studies - 6th: Use Magic Device - 10th: Expanded Spell Studies - 14th: Prodigious Memory ### Balanced Scribing When you select this school at 2nd level you've learned how to sacrifice one aspect of spell scribing to boost another. When you are copying a spell into your spellbook you may pay twice as much gold to halve the time required or take twice as long and halve the gold required. You must make this choice prior to scribing the spell and can not change it after. ### General Studies Starting at 2nd level, the search for arcana power has caused your studies to dip into several fields. You can add half your intelligence bonus, rounded down, to any ability check you make (with a minimum bonus of +1) even if you already add your intelligence modifier. ### Use Magic Device By 6th level, you have learned enough about the workings of magic that you can improvise the use of items even when they are not intended for you. You ignore all class, race, and level requirements on the use of magic items. > ##### Credits >* Made with [GMBinder](https://www.gmbinder.com/ "title") >* Made by [@Dunlichy](https://twitter.com/dunlichy/ "title") >* Art by [pendleburyannette](https://pixabay.com/illustrations/wizard-fantasy-magic-mystery-spell-4417430/ "title") \columnbreak ### Expanded Spell Studies By 10th level, you have plundered magical knowledge from a wide spectrum of disciplines. Choose two spells from any class, including this one. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Wizard table, or a cantrip. Any spell you gain from this feature is considered a wizard spell for you, but other wizards can’t copy these spells from your spellbook into their own spellbooks if they are not on the Wizard spell list. You learn two additional spells from any class at 14th level and again at 18th level. ### Prodigious Memory At 14th level, you have attained a greater mastery of spell preparation. As a bonus action, you can replace a number of spells you have prepared equal to your proficiency bonus with spells from your spellbook. You can’t use this feature again until you finish a short or long rest.
