This blade was forged using meteroic iron that fell from the heavens. It is said that the weapon contains the solidified essence of starlight, and that those slain by it have their souls purged of corruption. If you are proficient in shortswords, longswords, or greatswords, you are proficient with the starforged steel sword.
You gain a +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls made with this weapon, which deals 1d10 slashing damage plus an extra 2d6 radiant damage on a hit. When you hit an undead with it, you have advantage on attack rolls against that target. The sword's luminous blade emits bright light in a 25-foot radius and dim light for an additional 25 feet. The light is sunlight. You can use an action to expand or reduce its radius of bright and dim light, to a maximum of 50 feet each or a minimum of 10 feet each.
Starforged steel swords are found in two types, based off of the meteoric iron used to forge them: dwarf star iron, and giant star iron. The sword has 5 charges, which fuel abilities defined by the type of meteoric iron used to forge it. The sword regains all expended charges daily at dawn. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the sword maintains its +2 bonus to attack and damage rolls but loses all other properties.
Dwarf. If the sword is forged out of dwarf star iron, it gains the finesse property. As an action, you can expend 1 charge to raise your sword skyward, and unleash the power of the heavens. You select a target within 120 feet of you, and make a ranged attack with the sword, shooting a beam of pure sunlight towards a target. That creature must make a DC 17 Constitution saving throw. On a failed save, it deals 5d6 radiant damage, or half as much on a successful save.
Giant. If the sword is forged out of giant star iron, it gains the two-handed property, and the die for its slashing damage increases to 1d12. A creature with a Strength score of 19 or higher can wield this sword with one hand, rather than two.
As an action, you can extend 1 charge to thrust your sword to the earth. A fiery orb appears above your head, and it targets each creature in a 10-foot-radius sphere centered on a point you choose within 60 feet. Each creature in the area must make a DC 17 Dexterity saving throw. On a failed save, each target takes 3d6 fire damage, and 3d6 bludgeoning damage, or half as much damage on a successful save. The attack damages objects in the area and ignites flammable objects that aren’t being worn or carried.
