Races
The races of My homebrew world is presented in the following document. After the presentation of the races, and the tidbits of lore neccesary to describe them properly, follow the known history and the state of the world currently.
Warforged
With the discovery of the Akashic Record, the storage of all memories, the amount of new magical and technological inventions increased dramatically. One of these inventions, which is really an aggregate of several inventions, is the warforged, or warsculpted. With bodies designed for various war tasks, these constructed bodies of largely inorganic material contain a mnemonic soul; the memories of a someone deceased, plucked from the Akashic record.
War for the river
In the latest war for the river, an army of tusked trolls and atlans, together with the rebellion of the human slaves put the empire of the sun on its back foot. Pressured, the empire constructed the first warforged. Numerous types were developed, but three variants proved particularly effective. The gargoyle, scarecrow and jawforged.
Peace is not absence of conflict
The societal and moral implications of these creations is only just beginning to dawn on their creators. After the latest war, several now roam the world. Damaged or degrading souls looking for purpose, or simply people trying to make a place for themselves and their alien bodies, in an inimic world.
Warforged Traits
Your warforged character has a collection of features in common with warborn of any design.
Ability Score Increase. One ability score of your choice increases by 2, and one other ability score of your choice increases by 1.
Age. The first warforged was created 7 years ago. You have lived before and retain some, most or all of your memories of your past life. No one yet knows how long warforged live.
Size. Your size is medium.
Speed. Your base walking speed is 30 feet.
Constructed Resilience. You were created to have remarkable fortitude, represented by the following benefits:
- You have advantage on saving throws against being poisoned, and you have resistance to poison damage.
- You don't need to eat, drink, or breathe.
- You are immune to disease.
- You don't need to sleep, and magic can't put you to sleep.
Sentry's Rest. When you take a long rest, you must spend at least six hours in an inactive, motionless state, rather than sleeping. In this state, you appear inert, but it doesn’t render you unconscious, and you can see and hear as normal.
Subrace. The three most common designs of warforged are presented here, but feel free to fantasize.
Gargoyle
A winged juggernaut with grim features carved from stone, the gargoyles made up the largest part of the empires warforged force.
Falling With Style. Your stone wings allow you to control your fall. When you fall and aren't incapacitated, you can move up to 1 foot horizontally for every 1 foot you descend. Each creature within a 15 feet cube originating from you take damage as if they fell from the same height as you. On a successful Dexterity save, the creature takes half as much damage.
Stone's Endurance. You can occasionally shrug off glancing blows or falling damage. When you take damage, you can use your reaction to roll a d12. Add your Constitution modifier to the number rolled and reduce the damage by that total. After you use this trait, you can’t use it again until you finish a short or long rest.
Scarecrow
Modeled after farmers scarecrows to blend in and obtain and share information on enemy troop movement, as well as assassination if possible. The empire's scarecrows were a huge success, as the enemies never suspected seemingly simple scarecrows to be a part of the empires forces.
Dread Magic. When you reach 3rd level, you can cast the cause fear spell once per long rest. When you reach 5th level, you can also cast the sending spell once per long rest without any components. Charisma is your spellcasting modifier for these spells
False Appearance. While you remain motionless, you are indistinguishable from an ordinary scarecrow.
Terrifying. You gain proficiency in the Intimidation skill.
Jawforged
Designed for aquatic combat, inspired by sharks, the jawforged are anthropomorphic constructs with the head of a shark, and retractable fins for swimming.
Fins. Your retractable fins give you a swimming speed equal to your walking speed.
Jaws. Your jaws are a natural melee weapon, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. If you hit with it, you deal piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your strength modifier, instead of the bludgeoning damage normal for an unarmed strike.
