Half-Elf Variant: Tiefling
While Elves typically marry and reproduce with members of their own race, some seek out partners of other races. Elves are by nature a secluded, proud people, and those who choose this path are most often adventurers and explorers.
The most common example of the Half-Elf is the product of an Elf and a Human, but they are hardly the only pairing to exist. Most of the races have intermingled at this point, and those of pure descent are few and far between - not to mention insufferable and filled with a false sense of superiority.
A Legacy of Suspicion
Tieflings are the youngest of the races which inhabit the Sword Coast, and are the result of a pact between ancient humans and Asmodeus, lord of the Nine Hells, which infused their bloodlines with demonic power. As a result, they are often viewed as untrustworthy and dangerous by the less open-minded, despite having no natural inclination towards chaos or evil.
Self-reliant to a Fault
When Half-Elves of Tiefling descent gather in cities and other centers of civilization, they tend to live in the rougher quarters or among other minority populations, where they will be respected.
Lacking a homeland, many more are drifters and wanderers, and rely on their own strength to survive. While they are slow to trust those of other races, they form lifelong bonds with those who earn it.
