Powder Blade

3rd-level Ballistic Armiger feature

Your tinkering has led you to develop the means to create a Powder Blade. You gain proficiency with martial weapons.

Over the course of a long rest, you can modify one melee weapon to become a Powder Blade, choosing one of the following firearm models: Fastdraw, Longshot, or Spreadfire. You can change the weapon's model whenever you finish a long rest. You can only maintain one Powder Blade at a time. If you create a new one the old one breaks and loses its bonuses.

When you attack with your Powder Blade, you can use your Intelligence modifier, instead of Strength or Dexterity modifier, for the attack and damage rolls. Your Powder Blade counts as a ranged weapons when making ranged attacks with it.

In combat, whenever you take the Attack action using your Powder Blade, you can use your bonus action to make one ranged attack with it. Being within 5 feet of a hostile creature doesn’t impose disadvantage on this ranged attack roll.

Longshot

Your Powder Blade has been designed for long distance and precise shots.

Ranged Attacks The weapon gains the following properties: Range (150/300) and Reload (2). When making ranged attacks, its damage dice is 2d6 and it deals piercing damage.

Patient Shot: Once per turn, when you make a ranged weapon attack with this weapon, you gain advantage on the attack if you haven't moved yet this turn.

Fastdraw

(Restriction: Must be a light weapon)

Your Powder Blade has been designed to be fired quickly and rapidly.

Ranged Attacks The weapon gains the following properties: Range (60/120) and Reload (3). When making ranged attacks, its damage die is 1d8 and it deals piercing damage.

Double Tap: When you take the Attack action using your Powder Blade, you can make one additional ranged attack with it as part of the same action. If you do, you cannot make a ranged attack with it as a bonus action.

Spreadfire

(Restriction: Must be a two-handed or versatile weapon)

Your Powder Blade has been designed to fire sprays of powerful bullets.

Ranged Attacks The weapon gains the following properties: Range (10/20) and Reload (1). When making ranged attacks, its damage dice is 2d8 and it deals piercing damage.

Buck Shot: When you make a ranged weapon attack with this weapon as part of your bonus action, you can make another attack with against a different creature that is within 5 feet of the original target and within range. This additional attack does not count against the number of shots you can take before reloading.

Tool Proficiency

3rd-level Powder Blade feature

You gain proficiency with smith's tools. If you already have this proficiency, you gain proficiency with one other type of artisan's tools of your choice.

Extra Attack

5th-level Ballistic Armiger feature

You can attack twice, rather than once, whenever you take the Attack action on your turn.

Magic in the Chamber

9th-level Ballistic Armiger feature

You've learned new ways to store arcane energy within your Powder Blade. Whenever you reload your Powder Blade, you can choose to use this energy to cause of of the following effects:

  • The next time you attack with your Powder Blade at range it is empowered. The target creature and all creatures in a 15ft cone behind it must make a Dexterity saving throw against your spell save DC or take 3d6 fire damage.
  • The air in a 10ft radius around your space is filled with a deep black powder, heavily obscuring the area until the end of your next turn. If a creature in the area takes damage from your Powder Blade or a spell that deals fire damage passes through the area, the cloud explodes, causing all creatures within the area to take 1d6 fire damage.

You can use this energy a number of times equal to your Intelligence modifier (minimum of once), but you cannot do so more than once on a turn. You regain all expended uses when you finish a long rest.

Blackpowder Breakthrough

15th-level Gunbreaker feature

You have developed a new form of gunpowder that is more powerful and volatile, allowing you to improve your Powder Blade, as shown below:

  • The damage dealt by you Magic in the Chamber increases by 2d6.
  • Fastdraw. Your Fastdraw gains Reload (6 shots) in place of its previous reload property. Once per turn, when you make a ranged attack with your Fastdraw, you can attack with it twice, instead of once.
  • Longshot. When you make a ranged Attack with advantage using your Longshot, you score a critical hit on a roll of 18-20. When you score a critical hit with your Longshot, you gain a bonus to that damage roll equal to your Artificer level.
  • Spreadfire. You can make an additional attack against 2 different creatures within 5 feet of the original target, instead of 1. When you hit a creature with a ranged attack using your Spreadfire, it has disadvantage on attacks it makes before the end of its next turn.
Reload Property

A limited number of ranged attacks can be made with a weapon that has the reload property. A character must then reload it using an action or a bonus action (characters choice) before they can make ranged attacks with it again.
