Bard College

College of Lights

Bards of the College of Lights who instead of using music to express their connection to the weave instead use lights, fireworks and other forms of light based arts. Inspired by the night life of cities, celebrations or even the suns path through the sky these bards distill magic and art down to creating lights dazzling both their allies and enemies alike.

Lightworker's Gift

When you join this college at 3rd level, you learn how to weave small light-making magic into objects. You gain proficiency with glassblower’s tools. Using those tools, you can spend 1 hour and 10gp worth of materials to construct a Tiny lantern. The lantern sheds bright light in a 20-foot radius and dim light for an additional 20 feet in a color of your choice when you craft it. It ceases to function after 24 hours (unless you spend 1 hour repairing it to keep it functioning), or when you use your action to dismantle it; at that time, you can reclaim the materials used to create it.

Additionally, you learn the create bonfire, dancing lights, and light cantrips, they do not count against the number of cantrips you can know, and you can control the color of the lights you create via your bard spells at will.

Lantern Aegis

Also at 3rd level, you learn a new use for the lights you tend. As a bonus action, you can expend a use of your Bardic Inspiration feature to gift a willing creature that you can see within 60 feet with a small evershining light.

For 1 minute, the creature shines bright light out to 10 feet, and dim light for an additional 10 feet out beyond that. Whenever a lit creature takes damage of any type other than psychic, as a reaction they can cause the triggering attacker to take radiant damage equal to a roll of your Bardic Inspiration die. Once this has triggered, it cannot trigger again until the end of their next turn.

Sunshine

At 6th level, when you create a light using one of your bard spells you can exorcise greater control over its properties. When you cast a spell that sheds bright light in at least 5 feet of space you can apply one of the following effects;

  • The amount of light shed by the spell increases by double.
  • The maximum duration of the spell is increased to 10 minutes.
  • If a creature enters the bright light shed by the spell or ends their turn within it you can as a reaction, force that creature to make a Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the creature takes 2d6 radiant damage.

Illuminated Spellcasting

Also at 6th level, the light you cast with your spells is intensified. When you deal radiant or fire damage with a bard spell, you can add your Charisma modifier to the total damage dealt.

Shining Mind

At 14th level, when you expend a use of your Bardic Inspiration to use your Lantern Aegis feature, you also gain the benefits of that feature for its duration.

Additionally, any creature under your Lantern Aegis feature gains resistance to fire and radiant damage.
