Vulperian

If there's one idiom that describes them, it's "crazy like a fox." Vulperians are bipedal foxfolk that rely on their cunning and tenacity to survive. Though they are ancestrally native to the Feywild, Vulperians can nowadays be found anywhere from frozen tundras to hellish burning deserts, from verdant forests to bustling cities, and all the wild lands in between.

Vulperians are just as wildly diverse as the lands they roam, leading them to resemble different species of fox. Choose your heritage or roll on the Vulperian Heritage table.

Vulperian Heritage
d4 Vulpine Resemblance
1 Fulvari: Red fox, with rusty, silver, or white fur. A truly cunning charmer.
2 Alopexi: Arctic fox, with small ears and a dense white coat to stay warm through the harshest winter.
3 Urocyan: Gray fox, with peppered gray fur and sharp claws for climbing.
4 Zerdani: Fennec fox, with sandy golden fur and large ears to keep cool in the desert heat.

Vulperian Traits

As a Vulperian, you have the following traits.

Creature Type. You are a Humanoid.

Size. You are Medium or Small. You choose the size when you select this race.

Speed. Your walking speed is 30 feet.

Darkvision. You can see in dim light within 60 feet of you as if it were bright light, and in darkness as if it were dim light. You can't discern color in darkness, only shades of gray.

Fang and Claw. Your teeth and claws are natural melee weapons, which you can use to make unarmed strikes. Your Claws deal Slashing damage equal to 1d4 + your Strength modifier. You also have a Bite attack that deals Piercing damage equal to 1d6 + your Strength modifier.

Pounce. If you make a long jump or a high jump toward a target and then hit it with a Claw attack on the same turn, you can use a bonus action to attempt to knock the target prone. The target must be no more than one size larger than you. Unless it succeeds on a Strength saving throw against a DC equal to 8 + your proficiency bonus + your Strength modifier, you can knock the target prone.

Keen Senses. You have proficiency in the Perception skill.

Vulpine Agility: You can move through the space of any creature that is of a size larger than yours.

Vulperian Heritage. You gain an additional benefit based on one of the following options (choose when you select this race):

  • Fulvari. You have proficiency in one of the following skills of your choice: Performance or Sleight of Hand.
  • Alopexi. You have resistance to cold damage.
  • Urocyan. You have a climb speed equal to your walking speed.
  • Zerdani. You have resistance to fire damage.
Random Height and Weight

You can choose to randomize your Vulperian's height and weight via dice rolls. To do so, pick the formula below that corresponds with your chosen Heritage:

Vulperian Heritage Base Height Height Modifier Base Weight Weight Modifier
Fulvari 4' (48") +2d8 75lb. x (2d4) lb.
Alopexi 4' (48") +2d6 50lb. x (1d4) lb.
Urocyan 3' (36") +2d6 35lb. x 1 lb.
Zerdani 3' (36") +2d4 35lb. x 1 lb.

For example, Egan Oakfur is a Fulvari Vulperian, so his base height is 4 feet. His player rolls 2d8 and gets a total of 6, so Egan stands at 4 feet 6 inches. Egan's player then takes the initial roll of 6 used for his height modifier and multiplies it by 2d4 pounds. His 2d4 roll is 2, so Egan weighs an extra 12 pounds (6 x 2) on top of his base weight of 75 pounds, for a total of 87 pounds.

Don' let'cher guard down, not even fer an instant! Them wily lil' bastards is sly, I tell y'what. They'll steal all yer chick'ns and they's eggs right out from unner yer nose afore ya even knows they gone missin'!
