Draugr

A foul beast brought back from the dead by hatred and malice, the draugr, is a terrifying creature to behold. Though physically nothing more then a rotting corpse, foul magic and dark intent course through the draugr, granting it immense and terrible power.

Restless Dead. Those who die with greed an hatred in their hearts or are who denied the proper funeral rites, may rise again as the draugr, stalking the night sowing terror and death however they can.

They chase livestock into the woods, sow rot and pestilence amongst crops or even simply wander the night slaughtering man and beast alike, feasting on the flesh of their victims. Draugr are even said to dance on the roofs of houses while screaming songs of death, awakening and terrifying those within.

Foul Magic. The the dark forces that animate the draugr, also grants them supernatural power. The foremost of these powers is their ability to grow to immense size, crushing their foes with their immense strength and weight. Besides this they have can cast various spells weakening the body and mind of their foes, or even transform into wild beasts.

Their most vile ability is that which is known as the Curse of the Draugr. This abhorrent affliction befalls anyone who's blood the draugr spills dooming them to rise as a draugr themselves upon their death. To prevent this the body of those inflicted must be destroyed within a week of their death. fortunately, most slain by the draugr are then eaten, thus preventing this transformation, so those most likely to succumb to this affliction are the brave heroes who defeat them.

Persistent Will. Such is the fury of the draugr's spirit, that not even a second death will quell them. A draugr slain will rise again come the next sundown, to continue it's eternal hunt. Draugr who came about due to improper burial can be laid to rest by performing the proper rites before the next nightfall, but those born of malice or of the Curse of the Draugr can only be destroyed through the power of fire.

Undead Nature. Draugr do not require air, food, drink or sleep.
