Dragonkin - D&D 5e
Children of Bahumat, descendents of the Ancient Metallic Dragons, Dragonkin are shapeshifting dragons who hide among the crowd as humans. Some say their bloodline is gifted by the Metallic Dragons, some say they’re humans who have struck a deal with a draconic patron, but the true history of the Dragonkin is known by no one.
Shapeshifter.
As an action, Dragonkin can shift from their human form to their dragon form (or vise-versa). While in dragon form, you are a Wyrmling or Guard Drake (subraces seen below) of a color of your choice. Your hit points, walking speed, size, abilities, and armor class are shared between forms, but the following attributes are changed. You cannot attack with weapons, use a shield, or cast spells, but you have a bite attack (Natural Weapon, DEX + Proficiency to hit, 1d6 + STR piercing damage). Additional attributes are added based on your subrace and color, detailed below.
Dragon.
Because of your draconic origin and true form, you are considered a dragon rather than a humanoid, however you are indistinguishable from normal humans while in your human form. Spells or abilities that work on only dragons or only humanoids both affect you.
Age.
Dragonkin age at the same rate as humans, but stop physically aging at around 50 and have twice the life span.
Alignment.
Typically, Children of the Wing stray towards more chaotic or neutral alignments while Children of the Tooth are typically more lawful. Whether your Dragonkin is good, neutral or evil however, is most commonly determined by the alignment of your chosen color's dragons.
Ability Score Increase.
Your charisma score and 1 ability score of your choice increase by 1.
Subrace: Child of the Wing
Dragonkin of the Wing shift into Dragon Wyrmlings and generally serve as protectors of the sky, they are also typically more public about their true form compared to the Children of the Tooth.
Draconic Flight & Breath.
As a Child of the Wing, your dragon form is that of a Wyvern’s. While in dragon form, you gain a flying speed of 60ft, and you gain a breath weapon. After selecting your subrace, you choose a color as well, which represents your breath weapon’s damage type as well as other attributes. The save DC for your breath weapon is equal to 12 + Con + Proficiency bonus, and the damage is 1d8. The damage increases by 1d8 at 4th level, again at 9th level, and a third time at 15th level. When saving throws are succeeded, the target takes half damage. You can use this ability once per short rest.
