Foci of the Magi

All of the below foci share the following property.

This focus has 10 charges and regains 1d8 + 2 charges daily at dawn. When you cast a spell of 6th level or lower belonging to your subclass's school of magic, you may expend charges equal to the spell's level instead of expending a spell slot. If you expend the last charge, roll a d20. On a 1, the focus loses all special properties.

Focus of the Abjurer

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Abjuration)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as an abjurer are enhanced. Your Arcane Ward feature is improved in the following ways:

  • Whenever you cast an abjuration spell, your ward becomes resistant to nonmagical bludgeoning, piercing, and slashing damage for a number of rounds equal to the spell's level. These rounds can stack if you cast an abjuration spell while your ward already has resistance.
  • When you cast a spell that doesn't belong to the School of Abjuration, your ward regains hit points equal to the spell's level.

Your Projected Ward feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The range of the feature increases to 60 feet.
  • If the ward is reduced to 0 hit points, you can choose to take any excess damage instead of the warded creature.

Focus of the Conjurer

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Conjuration)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as a conjurer are enhanced. Your Minor Conjuration feature is improved in the following ways:

  • You may have up to three objects conjured with this feature at a time. If you attempt to conjure a fourth, the oldest remaining summon disappears.
  • You may choose for the object to not radiate dim light out to 5 feet.

Your Benign Transposition feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The range of the feature increases to 60 feet.
  • You gain the option of swapping the place of two willing creatures, not including yourself, within range that you can see.
  • On a turn that you use your Action to cast a conjuration spell of first level or higher, you can use this feature as a bonus action on the same turn, targeting only yourself.

Focus of the Diviner

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Divination)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as a diviner are enhanced. Your Portent feature is improved in the following ways:

  • Once per short rest, you may reroll one of your remaining foretelling rolls. You must keep the new result.
  • If you use a foretelling roll on a roll that turns out to equal the foretelling roll you chose, you do not have to expend that foretelling roll.

Your Expert Divination feature is improved in the following way:

  • The maximum level spell slot that can be restored using this feature increases to 7th level.
  • You may choose to restore two spell slots with this feature, provided that the sum of their levels is less than or equal to one less than the level of the divination spell cast.

Focus of the Enchanter

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Enchantment)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as an enchanter are enhanced. Your Hypnotic Gaze feature is improved in the following ways:

  • You only need to use a bonus action to maintain the effect on subsequent turns.
  • The range to initiate and maintain the effect increases to 10 feet.
  • When you normally wouldn't be able to use your Hypnotic Gaze on a specific creature until the end of your next long rest, you may expend a spell slot of first level or higher and do so anyway.

Your Instinctive Charm feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The range of the feature increases to 60 feet.
  • There does not need to be another creature within the attack's range. If the attacker has no valid targets other than you or itself and fails its saving throw, it forgoes its attack.
  • When you normally wouldn't be able to use your Instinctive Charm on a specific creature until the end of your next long rest, you may expend a spell slot of first level or higher and do so anyway.

Focus of the Evoker

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Evocation)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as an evoker are enhanced. Your Sculpt Spells feature is improved in the following way:

  • If you forgo two pockets of safety, you can instead create one pocket of intensity and impose disadvantage on the saving throw of one creature affected by the spell.

Your Potent Cantrip feature is improved in the following way:

  • For damaging cantrips that use an attack roll rather than a saving throw, you score a critical hit on a roll of 19 or 20.

Focus of the Illusionist

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Illusion)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as an illusionist are enhanced. Your Improved Minor Illusion feature is improved in the following way:

  • The area of effect for your minor illusion cantrip increases to a 10-foot cube.

Your Malleable Illusions feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The feature takes your bonus action to use, rather than your action.
  • When you alter an illusion with this feature, you may do so such that the transition appears natural. For example, you could make the illusion of a creature smoothly stand up or sit down, rather than abruptly change.

Focus of the Necromancer

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Necromancy)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as a necromancer are enhanced. Your Grim Harvest feature is improved in the following ways:

  • For each creature (not including constructs or undead) beyond the first that you kill with a spell, you gain temporary hit points equal to twice the spell's level, or three times the spell's level if the spell belongs to the School of Necromancy.
  • When you gain temporary hit points as a result of Grim Harvest, you may divert some or all of those temporary hit points to one or more undead under your control, dividing them as you see fit.

Your Undead Thralls feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The bonus to hit point maximum for undead you raise increases to one and a half times your wizard level.
  • Undead you raise have their Constitution, Dexterity, and Strength scores increased by an amount equal to your Intelligence modifier. This bonus cannot raise any of these scores above your Intelligence score.
  • As a bonus action, you may instantly kill an undead under your control and gain temporary hit points equal to its remaining hit points.

Focus of the Transmuter

Arcane focus (any), very rare (requires attunement by a wizard belonging to the School of Transmutation)

While attuned to this arcane focus, your abilities as a transmuter are enhanced. Your Minor Alchemy feature is improved in the following ways:

  • The procedure only takes 1 minute per cubic foot of material.
  • The target object may be comprised of a combination of materials that you can transmute. You may individually choose what different materials in the target object are transmuted into.

Your Transmuter's Stone feature is improved in the following way:

  • You may create an additional transmuter's stone.
