Additional Weapons

The following nonmagical weapons can be purchased or found in many settings. They are meant to supplement the choices found in the Equipment section of the Basic Rules.

The Broadaxe, Plançon, and Tonfa are meant to fill the gaps that Wizards of the Coast left in martial melee weapons. The Broadaxe addresses the lack of 2d6 axe weapon, the Placon addresses the lack of bludgeoning reach weapon, and the Tonfa addresses the lack of light bludgeoning weapon.

The Lasso and War Spear are meant to correct some of the major complaints directed at the Net and Trident, respectfully. As the net has a short range of 5 feet, it can't be used without disadvantage, whereas the Lasso can. Tridents have no mechanical difference to spears, yet cost more, whereas the War Spear increases damage by one die size.

 

Special Weapons

Weapons with special rules are described here.

Lasso. A Large or smaller creature hit by a lasso is restrained until it is freed. A Lasso has no effect on creatures that are formless, or creatures that are Huge or larger. A creature can use its action to make a DC 10 Strength check, freeing itself or another creature within its reach on a success. Dealing 5 slashing damage to the Lasso (AC 10) also frees the creature without harming it, ending the effect and severing the lasso.

When you use an action, bonus action, or reaction to attack with a Lasso, you can make only one attack regardless of the number of attacks you can normally make.

Brass Knuckles. Brass Knuckles deal additional damage equal to your unarmed strike's base damage.
