Mastering the Basics

Monks of the Way of the Grandmaster have dedicated themselves to perfecting their form in the fundamental techniques of martial arts, focusing their ki into simple but perfected maneuvers to best their opponents. None are equal to a Grandmaster in unarmed combat.

Martial Arts Stance

As a bonus action, you spend 1 ki point to enhance your focus by entering a Martial Arts Stance. The stance lasts for 1 minute, until you’re incapacitated, or you dismiss it (no action required).

While in your Martial Arts Stance, you can choose to impose one of the following effects whenever you hit a creature with an unarmed strike:

Holds and Throws. You can attempt to grapple or shove the target. When you do so, you can make a Dexterity (Acrobatics) check instead of a Strength (Athletics) check.

Discombobulate. The target has disadvantage on its next attack roll. The target must also make a Constitution saving throw. On a failure, the target also has disadvantage on all attack rolls against you until the start of your next turn.

Disarm. You can attempt to disarm the target, forcing it to release one item of your choice that it’s holding. The target must make a Strength saving throw. On a failed save, it releases the object you choose. You can choose if you now hold the object or if the object lands at the target's feet.

Practiced Perfection

At 6th level, choose one of your skill proficiencies. The chosen proficiency must appear on the Monk skills list available at 1st level. Your proficiency bonus is doubled for any ability check you make that uses the chosen proficiency.

Parry-Pass Counter

Beginning at 6th level, while in your Martial Arts Stance, you can use your reaction to deflect the blow when you are hit by a melee weapon attack. When you do so, the damage you take from the attack is reduced by 1d10 + your Dexterity modifier + your monk level.

If you reduce the damage to 0, you deflect the attack and create an opening in your opponent's defenses. If you deflect the attack in this way, you can spend 1 ki point to make an unarmed strike against the attacker, as part of the same reaction.

Marial Arts Master

Beginning at 11th level, whenever you use your Flurry of Blows, you can make three unarmed strikes as a bonus action, instead of two.

Additionally, while in your Martial Arts Stance, you can deal extra damage to a target equal to your Martial Arts die when you hit the target with an unarmed strike. You can deal this extra damage only once on each of your turns.

Grandmaster Stance

Starting at 17th level, you've mastered your martial arts. On your turn, you can spend 5 ki points as a bonus action to enter a enhanced form of your Martial Arts Stance, the grandmaster stance. While in your enhanced Martial Arts Stance, you gain the following benefits:

Grandmaster Defense. You gain a +2 bonus to AC.

Mastery of Body. You have advantage on Strength and Dexterity ability checks and saving throws.

Stun the Soul. You gain the ability to bypass the body and disrupt the flow of ki in an opponent's soul directly. Whenever you use your Stunning Strike ability, you can choose for the target to make a Wisdom saving throw instead of a Constitution saving throw.

Inerrant Strikes. Whenever you score a critical hit with an unarmed strike on a creature, you regain 1 ki point.
