Arcane Artist v.3 Final

The arcane artist channels their magic through paintings, drawings and art tools. As arcane artists are known for aiding their allies with mighty, spell-infused paintings and incredible inspiration, they are always welcome amidst a party that is in dire need of magical support.

Magic Paintings

At 2nd level, you gain the ability to easily infuse your paintings with potent magic. During a rest you can create spell scrolls of wizard spells you already know for a reduced cost. For every level of spell you paint into spell scrolls, you have to expend 1 hour and 25 gold pieces. You can craft a number of spell levels equal to your Intelligence modifier per short or long rest. The paintings crumble to dust if they aren't used after 1d4 long rests.

Additionally, these spells can be cast by anyone, even if the spell isn't on the caster's spell list. The spells use the user's intelligence stat if they don't have any other spellcasting feature.

Artist's Tools

Also at 2nd level, you gain proficiency with painter's supplies and one additional type of musical instrument or artisan's tool.

You can use either tool or instrument as an arcane focus for your wizard spells.

Spark of Genius

At 6th level, you draw inspiration from everything around you and gain inspiration from other magic user's methods. Choose two spells from the bard spell list and add them to your spell book. A spell you choose must be of a level you can cast, as shown on the Wizard table, or a cantrip. The chosen spells count as wizard spells for you and you need to prepare them as you would any other wizard spell.

You learn one additional spell of your choosing at 14th level.

Colorful Markings

Beginning at 10th level, you can assist your allies by marking enemies with your artistic talents. As a bonus action choose one creature within 60 feet of you, the creature must succeed on a dexterity saving throw or be marked by a glowing color or symbol of your choosing for 1 minute or until the marked creature uses its action to clean the mark off.

The marked creature has disadvantage on stealth checks, can not become invisible, attacks made against the marked target have advantage and score a critical hit on a 19 or 20. The mark glows until the start of your next turn.

You can use this feature a number of times equal to your intelligence modifier per long rest.

Arcane Inspiration

At 14th level, you can use your arcane art to inspire your allies in the midst of combat and during the day. As a reaction to an ally within 30 feet of you making an attack roll, a saving throw or an ability check, you can expend a spell slot of up to 5th level and grant a bonus to the roll equal to twice the spell slot's level.

Create Painting

Illusion Cantrip

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Components: V, S
  • Duration: 1 Hour

You can magically paint a detailed picture, a crude map or a symbol on an object or surface of your choice. The painting can't be more than 5 feet in diameter and can consist of up to three colors of your choice. The painting can't be removed by non-magical means and is visible for up to 1 hour or until you dismiss it as an action.

Pablo's Color Spray

1st level Illusion

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 30 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (Paint)
  • Duration: 1 Round

A dazzling array of flashing, colored light springs from your hand and rushes a creature within range. The target must succeed on a Dexterity saving throw or take 3d6 force damage and be blinded until the end of your next turn. On a successful save, the target takes only half damage.

At higher levels. When you cast this spell at higher levels, you can target one additional creature for each slot above 1st.

Enthralling Picture

4th level Enchantment

  • Casting Time: 1 Action
  • Range: 5 feet
  • Components: V, S, M (a brush and some paint)
  • Duration: 12 hours

You quickly paint a magic-infused image on an object or surface that can enthrall those who look at it. As long as you are within 100 feet of the painting, you can use your reaction to activate the painting for 1 minute. Every creature that looks at the painting while it is activated, has to succeed on a Wisdom saving throw or be paralyzed for the duration. The affected targets can repeat the saving throw at the end of their turns. If the affected creature is not in combat or not hostile towards you, it has disadvantage on the saving throw.

1 minute after activating the painting, the picture disappears and the spell ends.

Painted Prison

8th level Abjuration

  • Casting Time: 1 minute
  • Range: Self
  • Components: V, S, M (high quality paper and paint, worth 500 gp which the spell consumes)
  • Duration: Until Disspelled

You paint a swirl of colors or a specific portrait of a person on the paper and can try to trap a target within the picture, freezing them in time. After you have crafted the painting, you can use an action and target a creature within 100 feet of you that you can see (creatures warded by a protection from evil and good or magic circle spell can't be targeted). The target must make a Charisma saving throw. On a success the spell fails and the painting crumbles to dust. On a failure, the creature is sucked into the painting.

A creature that is inside a painting is considered unconscious as time stops for it. While affected by this spell, the creature doesn't need to breathe, eat, or drink, and it doesn't age. The creature can't be targeted by attacks or spells and destroying the painting breaks the spell and the creature is released within 5 feet of it.

A creature that failed its saving throw can repeat it after 24 hours but fails automatically if the spell is cast on the painting again. A creature can willingly fail this saving throw.
